JOB DESCRIPTION Job Family: Research Job Function: Laboratory Operations Job Title: Veterinary Technician Pay Band: 4 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt General Description (Purpose and Function): Performs routine laboratory procedures and clinical procedures. Assists Veterinarians in providing care to animals and conducts clinical work. Primary Duties and Responsibilities (For Non-exempt Employees Include Percent of Effort): Performs various medical tests on animals, including drawing blood and preparing tissue samples. Treats and diagnoses medical conditions and diseases. Obtains and records animals’ case histories, exposes and develops x rays and radiographs. Responsible for the preparation of treatment rooms and medical instruments. Sanitizes the workplace and is responsible for the preparation of veterinary exams. Responsible for holding or restraining animals while the veterinarian performs an exam and weighing animals. Assits veterinarians with dental procedures. Prepares and administers medications orally or topically. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of animal science, medicine, and husbandry. Knowledge of pharmacology and sufficient mathematical skills to ensure the administration of accurate drug and fluid doses. Ability to work independently and with teams. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work in a noisy environment. Education Requirements (Essential Requirements): High School Education. Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements): One year of relevant work experience.
