EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (Note: The examples of work as listed in this class specification are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. Examples of work performed are not to be used for allocation purposes.) Performs biological work on the origin, relationship, development, anatomy, and functions of plants and/or animals. Conducts investigations on the economic utilization, environmental impact, or harmful factors affecting specific plants and/or animals. Assists in the development, evaluation and maintenance of wildlife management areas. Examines human and animal tissues for presence of viruses by means of tissue culture and other techniques; identifies viral agents and performs immunological studies of blood for the presence of viral antibodies by means of such technical procedures as the complement fixation, neutralization, and hemagglutination inhibition tests. Inoculates tissue and mosquito suspensions into mice and other appropriate hosts. Conducts research projects for the control of arthropods; reviews chemical and physical control methods; assists in developing research operations in control districts; and recommends the final approval of projects and the procurement of scientific equipment and related literature. Identifies and conducts research studies on plant parasitic nematodes. Performs related work as required. Knowledge of the procedures, techniques and equipment used in laboratory testing and analysis. Knowledge of the methods of data collection. Skill in the use of scientific laboratory and field equipment. Ability to collect, record and analyze scientific data relating to the biological sciences. Ability to conduct biological research, studies or analyses using scientific methods and techniques. Ability to perform quantitative analysis of scientific data. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the biological sciences and one year of professional biological experience in a field or laboratory program; or A master's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the biological sciences.
