Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed-term position as a
Postdoctoral Researcher with the Centre for Chromosome Biology at the National University of
Ireland, Galway. This position is funded by Science Foundation Ireland and is available from 01
October 2012 to contract end date of 31 March 2014.
The National University of Ireland, Galway, is seeking outstanding candidates for a fixed-term
contract position in the Centre for Chromosome Biology (CCB). The CCB is an interactive network
of 11 basic research labs, investigating topics linked to genome biology. We are interested in
understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying chromosome replication, segregation, repair,
evolution, chromatin regulation and transcription. These processes are fundamental to our
growing understanding of genetics and epigenetics, and have important implications for
neurological disease and cancer. For further information see

Job Description:
The successful candidate will be an integral part of an established research lab and avail of the
interactive environment within the CCB. Opportunity to perform independent research in the field
of molecular genetics of DNA trinucleotide repeats will be provided and the successful candidate
will work with Prof Lahue and his research team on novel mechanisms of disease-causing
mutations. Duties will include, but are not limited to, initiating experiments, analysing results,
trouble-shooting and communicating findings to the supervisor, labmates and CCB staff.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated about research and be able to work independently.
Strong experience in molecular cloning and microbiological techniques is essential. Applicants
must have a Ph.D. in Genetics, Biochemistry or a related field. The ideal candidate would have
experience in yeast molecular genetics as evidenced by a publication record. Candidates should
have excellent skills in communication (both written and oral), organisation, computation and
interpersonal relationships.
Salary: €38,286-40,086 per annum. (Public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply.)
