Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed term position as a
Postdoctoral Researcher in Organic Synthesis within the School of Chemistry at the National
University of Ireland, Galway. This position is funded by Science Foundation Ireland through a
Technology and Innovation Development Award (TIDA) and is available from January 1st 2014 to
December 31st 2014.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will be engaged in the synthesis of natural product like structures of
relevance for chemical biology and drug discovery. The candidate will be based in the research
group of Professor Paul Murphy and will be expected to contribute to the organisation of research
group activities and in mentoring of both undergraduate and postgraduate students working in the
Galway group. They will prepare manuscripts and reports related to the work. In addition they will
be required to participate in an entrepreneurship training course.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have:
1. submitted a PhD thesis in organic chemistry for examination and be available from
January 1st 2014
2. significant experience in organic synthesis and associated techniques as evidenced by
peer reviewed publication
3. a good chemical knowledge and have strong problem solving and practical skills and be
able to work independently
4. excellent interpersonal skills
Salary: €37,750 per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)
Start date: Position is available from January 2014
