Research Assistant – A Translational Programme in Multiple Myeloma

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full time fixed term position as a
Research Assistant within the Discipline of Medicine, based at the National Centre for Biomedical
Sciences (NCBES) at the National University of Ireland, Galway. This position is funded by the
Health Research Board and is available from December, 2012 for an initial period of 1 year with
possibility of extension.
This post is an integral part of the development of a new translational research programme in
multiple myeloma funded by the Health Research Board (HRB) following a recent HRB Clinician
Scientist Award to Prof. Michael O’Dwyer.
Job Description: The successful candidate will support a Postdoctoral Researcher / Scientist in
setting up a new laboratory dedicated to translational research in multiple myeloma. He/she will
undertake routine tasks in the laboratory, as well as provide assistance with experiments, including
drug screening.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have a track record in a research and development environment at the
level of research assistant, preferably with translational experience. Applicants must have a
minimum of MSc in the biomedical sciences. The ideal candidate would have experience in basic
translational research techniques (e.g. cell culture, flow cytometry, immunoblotting). Candidates
should have excellent communication and organizational skills; be highly motivated and passionate
about cancer research; and have strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills.
Salary: €21,865 - €22,715 p.a. (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)
Start date: Position available from December 2012
