Key Function
As a key member of the YMAC Senior Professional Officer Team to provide strategic,
organisational and anthropological advice and analysis on Research and Heritage matters; to
meet the organisational objectives of constructive outcomes and high quality, cost-effective
and efficient Native Title Research and Heritage Program delivery.
Position Responsibilities
Research & Heritage




Provide strategic, organisational and professional anthropological advice to the
Director of Research and Heritage on research, approaches, progress and issues.
Perform anthropological research for specific native title claim/s.
Provide leadership on and strategic input into regional and individual claims
management.
Maintain effective relationships with internal staff and key external stakeholders.
Project Management





Preparation and assessment of native title connection research material as required.
Effective management of multiple projects simultaneously in accordance with agreed
budgets and timeframes.
Provide accurate and timely reports as directed.
Peer review draft connection reports.
Effective liaison with relevant parties to achieve organisational objectives.
Leadership and Management





Provide leadership, guidance and professional advice and support to Research staff.
Supervise and professionally develop Research staff.
Provide leadership and manage Anthropologists on regional research work plans.
Ensuring effective anthropological input to concurrent YMAC processes.
Contribute to building organisational capability.
People
Manage relevant business units human resources and personnel fairly, consistently and in
accordance with YMAC policy / Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) and other relevant
legislation and/or funding requirements in areas as follows:
 Learning & Development
 Performance Management & Development
 Recruitment, Selection & Induction
 Planning Staffing resources
Corporate
Physical Resources
 Take care of and responsibility for any physical resources during employment with YMAC
including IT, vehicles, equipment and related items
Information
 Ensure confidentiality, respect and professionalism is maintained in all business dealings
during employment at YMAC
 Provide all relevant business unit information is maintained and provided for Annual Reports,
Funding requirements as directed.
Business
 Work as key member of the Management team and participate in associated meetings and
conferences
 Responsible for ensuring all costs are minimised with the business transactions and all

Approval & Authority Levels
 As per delegations as detailed in the YMAC Policy and Procedures Manual
Experience
 Tertiary qualifications in Anthropology and /or Applied Anthropology at the Honours or
Postgraduate level (eligible for membership of the Australian Anthropological Society)
 Relevant experience in Native Title and/or Applied Anthropology
 At least three years experience in the management of multiple projects
 Experience in the Indigenous, native title, resources, government or university sector/s
 Relevant experience working in regional or remote Australia with Indigenous people
 Experience in managing costs and working with budgets within timeframes
