Key Function
To conduct efficient and effective anthropological research and produce accurate
anthropological materials.
Position Responsibilities
Native Title and Heritage Research

Under the general direction of the Senior Anthropologists, perform connection
research and produce connection materials (including reports) for use in
native title claims and other contexts under the Native Title Act 1993, in
accordance with the Western Australian Government Connection Guidelines.

Conduct heritage surveys and prepare cultural heritage reports in accordance
with YMAC policies and procedures and the requirements of relevant
Aboriginal heritage legislation.

Work in collaboration with other staff including legal, policy and field staff to
ensure that the operations and native title obligations of the organisation are
undertaken efficiently. Attend meetings as required.

Assist and work in co-operation with research consultants engaged from time
to time.

Work closely with native title claimant groups and other stakeholders to
develop effective relationships with all parties.
Advice

Under the supervision of the Senior Anthropologist/s, advise the organisation
on native title research and Aboriginal heritage issues.

Advise the Senior Anthropologist/s on and provide input to agreements
negotiations, future acts matters and other native title processes administered
by YMAC.

Provide advice on native title claim group issues and propose strategies for
resolution.

Monitor, advise and provide objective reports on the consultant performance.

Advise on the acquittal of consultants’ contractual responsibilities.




Provide regular written reports on the progress of native claims as directed.
Prepare written and verbal reports on research and other activities as
required.
Adhere to Federal Court and agreement timeframes in the delivery of
anthropological materials.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Qualifications & Experience
 Tertiary qualifications in Anthropology, preferably with Honours


Experience working with Aboriginal people (desirable)
Current manual driver’s licence








Ability to work effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people
Excellent written communication skills, including report writing
