Early Stage Researchers Million Euro Project Pitch The NUI Galway Research Day will include a Dragon’s Den style event which will provide early stage researchers(Max 8 years post PhD) with the opportunity to pitch their research project ideas to a panel of ‘Research Dragons’ who have funding to support the development of a grant application for the project through support for networking, travel, consultancy, etc. Ideas may be pitched by individuals or teams (all members must meet the early stage researcher criteria). Event Structure The event will take place at 1:30 pm on July 3rd in the Aula Maxima, Ground Floor. The shortlisted researcher(s) will have 10 minutes to work against the clock to present and pitch their research idea to the panel of judges. The panel will then have 5 minutes for questions based on the presentation. The Research Dragons will at the end of the presentations make a decision in respect of supporting the project development. The overall project pitch should be for an award value of approx €200,000. Application Process Applications should be submitted using the application form that is part of this document. Applications should be received by Friday 20th of June 2014. Applications will be reviewed using the criteria below and a shortlist of 4 projects will be selected to pitch on Research Day. Shortlisted candidates will be notified on 24th of June. . Judging Criteria Research Content (60%) The degree of novelty, timeliness and originality of the Research idea(a mix of disciplines/cross college proposals are particularly welcome) Impact of the idea Planned outcomes of the project in terms of external funding/publications etc Research Communication (40%) The ability to communicate research to non specialist audience Persuasiveness and passion for research idea clearly demonstrated.
