Mrs. Grandon’s 6th Grade Social Studies & Core-2nd Semester Expectations As a measure to continue building success for our sixth grade students and prepare them for seventh grade, please take a moment to review our class policies as we begin the new semester. Learning Environment: My goal is for students to learn in an environment that is safe, positive, and fun! I want all students to feel safe to ask questions and have the freedom express their thinking. Students are expected to treat themselves and others with courtesy and respect at all times. 1. 2. 3. 4. Classroom Norms Be respectful and kind. Be prepared. Be punctual. Have a positive attitude. Rewards Praise Happy notes Earn tickets for raffle Calls/emails home Awards 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Consequences Warning -Minutes/-Tickets Call/email home Detention Office referral In addition to these norms created by the class, students will also be held accountable for following directions, working cooperatively, using class time wisely, and coming to class prepared to do their best. Materials for Learning: In order to be prepared to learn, students must always bring the following materials to Social Studies and Core classes. inder or accordion folder Highlighter (any color) sharpened /mechanical pencils Silent reading book Minder Binder Red pen for grading Homework: Homework will be based on the learning that occurs in class. When given, it most often will be a follow-up to a lesson or review of a previously taught skill/strategy. It may also be research or frontloading of a concept we will discuss in class. Homework due dates are given along with assignments and should be turned in accordingly. Furthermore, any incomplete classwork is expected to be completed as homework and returned the following day. Absences/Work Policy Daily student attendance is vital, as group discussions and classroom interactions are challenging to reconstruct. Students are responsible for making up both class work and homework given on the days missed. In case of an absence, the student should see his or her Study Buddy (listed in the Minder Binder), check the homework board for requested assignments, and/or check homework assignments listed on my website. Absence from class does not excuse anyone from completing assignments or taking tests. Students have one day to make up work for each day absent from class. All tests/quizzes will need to be made up upon the student’s return to school. Mrs. Grandon’s 6th Grade Social Studies & Core-2nd Semester Expectations Late Work Policy Virtually all middle school teachers will tell you that the single biggest cause for poor grades is failure to turn in assignments on time. Homework and class work will only be accepted late for half credit. Late assignments will only be accepted within two weeks of the due date. Communication: Communication and building partnerships are they key to success. Please know that I can always be reached by email or phone. If you have a concern or a success that you would like to share, please don’t hesitate to do so. Contact info: email: egrandon@losal.org phone: (562) 799-4740 ext. 76206 In addition, information will be posted on my website at: www.losal.org/oak (click on “Teachers,” then Grandon). Students are expected to check the website at the beginning of the week to be informed of class assignments. Online Grades Grades are based on completion and quality of classwork, projects, presentations, quizzes, tests, homework, and class participation. Each assignment or project will have a specific point value. All assignments are expected to be completed neatly, turned in on time, and display a student’s best effort. Parents and students are able to monitor progress through Aeries Browser Interface (ABI). This will prove to be an easy way to check current grades and/or missing assignments. The web address is http://parent.losal.org. More information on Aries is provided in the main office. Students are expected to check their grades in ABI weekly to check for missing assignments.
