POSITION SUMMARY: Perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic
systems, wiring, fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: A comparable amount of training, education or experience
may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Completion of high school/GED; at least 5 years related work experience; EPA Certification and Natural Gas Certification
preferred; knowledge of operation and maintenance of a wide variety of hand, power and shop tools, testing
equipment, and other electrical equipment; prefer Journeyman Electrician Certification; valid Missouri Driver’s License
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
 Perform skilled electrical work with the ability to install, troubleshoot and repair systems and components,
including circuit wiring, conduit, lighting fixtures, receptacles, switching controls, fans, circuits, low and high
voltage power supplies, controls systems, etc.
 Apply analytical and manual skills in inspecting, maintaining, installing, troubleshooting, calibrating, safety testing
and repairing motors, generators, chargers, and transformers.
 Troubleshoot and repair electronic monitoring and control systems. These systems include environmental control
systems, fire alarm systems, security alarm systems and security camera systems.
 Use a variety of machines, electrical hand tools and test equipment commonly used by electricians such as
multimeters, cable pullers, relay testing equipment, conduit benders.
 Responsible for maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of the latest national and local electrical codes.
 Assist with preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on HVAC system, electrically powered equipment and
appliances.
 Estimate, order and purchase materials for projects in compliance with College purchasing procedures.
 Complete work orders as assigned and in a timely manner.
 Inspect buildings and grounds to insure safe well maintained conditions and advise Director of Facilities and
Grounds of needed repairs.
 Disassemble, repair and reassemble or replace defective electrical equipment such as plugs, switches, outlets,
controls, ballast’s, motors and appliances.
 Work with outside contractors as assigned to ensure that work is completed according to specifications and to
deal with problems occurring in the project. Coordinate electrical equipment rental and setup.
 Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment
or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
 Maintain inventory and recommend electrical supplies and equipment for purchase.
 Perform rough in wiring and terminations on construction projects.
 Size wire and conduits according to ampacity ratings and fill capacity of conduit according to standards outlined by
National Electrical Codes.
 Maintain records on work projects completed; prepare written reports related to work assignments; document
actions and present written progress reports.
 Wear proper protective equipment while performing job duties (ie, goggles, helmet, back brace, knee pads).

Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques,
and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
 Respond to 24-hour emergency calls pertaining to HVAC system or electrical system; adjustment of hours
involving evening and/or weekend work may be required.
 Assist with special projects as assigned.
 Assist with snow removal.
 Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential
task satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: The Maintenance Technician II differs from the Maintenance Technician I by the
nature of the technical skills and craftsmanship required in performing tasks. The Maintenance Technician II is expected
to exercise a higher level of independent judgment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret electrical codes, operation manuals, schematic drawings, “as built
drawings”, safety rules, blue prints, electrical diagrams, building codes, and construction documents; ability to write
routine reports and correspondence; ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to
interact effectively with diverse student populations, co-workers, suppliers, and contractors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to accurately perform mathematical calculations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral,
and diagram form; ability to interpret policy and establish methods and procedures for acquiring, installing, testing,
operating, or repairing machinery or technology systems; ability to perform all essential functions using safe work
methods and following safety regulations relating to job.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Knowledge of lock out tag out and working on energized circuits; knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets;
demonstrated knowledge of operation and maintenance of a wide variety of hand, power and shop tools, testing
equipment, and other electrical equipment; knowledge of current National Electrical Codes; ability to understand and
follow directions given orally and in writing; knowledge of proper lifting techniques; ability to operate heavy equipment;
ability to Weld metal, braze metal; ability to operate pertinent equipment skillfully and safely; knowledge of department
and college policies, procedures, and practices with the ability to answer work related questions; and/or interpret and
apply these guidelines correctly in various situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use
hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or
hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell; the employee must have a lifting ability to remove
and replace parts on building electrical systems; the employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and
occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds; the employee must frequently climb and work on ladders; the position
may also require close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust
focus.
WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or
humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical
shock, mechanical hazards, explosive hazards, burn hazards, chemical hazards, and vibration. The employee is frequently
exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to high places; the noise level in the
work environment is usually moderate.
