SUMMARY:
Work on environmental management projects (e.g. sustainability, conservation) and cost benefit impacts
to assist with APC’s continuous improvement efforts. Identify and develop improvements to the
manufacturing facility’s environmental footprint, by addressing inputs and outputs to the plant to ensure
continued sustainability efforts. This goal needs to be accomplished while maintaining focus on other
requirements of the operation to run successfully as a business and maintain safety of all employees.
*This is a 40-hour week summer job with preference for flexible part-time hours during school year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Will work directly with Engineering and Manufacturing to identify, research, gain approval, and
implement self-chosen projects throughout the facility that improve efficiency and reduce environmental
impacts.
Maintain and establish relationships with current and potential recycling partners. Record all information
related to volume and cost/benefits of recycling programs in place. Determine if it will be more
advantageous to build a relationship with new partners.
Lead implementation of suggestions received through the conservation challenge employee participation
program. Check suggestion box regularly. Record all suggestion for future reference. Review
suggestions with the Green team and the affected operations with in the division.
Calculate the carbon footprint of various operations and products within the division.
Key member of the Green Team Committee, expected to be the driving force in accomplishing Green
Team goals. This will include some interaction with the Environmental Management System Committee.
Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Enrolled in a degree program at a four-year college or university in a related field to Environmental
Science, Chemistry, Industrial Technology, or Engineering. Related experience: Familiarity with plastic
waste streams, hazardous waste categories, and sustainable plastics is highly desirable. Knowledge of
materials and knowledge of math and statistics and the ability to apply and interpret environmental issues
is desirable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical papers, financial reports, technical
procedures, legal documents or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to
questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and top management. Strong oral and written
communication skills are required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and
permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution,
determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory,
and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to add, subtract, multiple, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common
fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions and percentages. Ability
to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most
difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current registration in 4 year degree program with related degree.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and talk
or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities
required by this job include color vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical
parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
