JOB DESCRIPTION CITY OF VIRGINIA Date Updated Approved by X Bargaining Unit AFSCME I. TITLE: Maintenance/Clerk II. RATE OF PAY: $19.81/hr. (effective 1/1/2012) III. REPORTS TO: Library Director Non-Bargaining IV. NATURE OF POSITION: The Maintenance/Clerk worker is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the physical facility and associated equipment, as well as performing clerical tasks in the library. Due to the nature of work at the Library, employees in this classification may be assigned to perform work in any classification. V. RESPONSIBILITIES (not meant to be inclusive of all duties to be assigned): A. Sweep and mop vestibules and steps so that they are kept clean and in good condition. Vacuum carpet regularly. B. Routine cleaning and custodial work. Maintain and clean the building and grounds. Maintains landscaping by mowing grounds, shoveling snow and snow removal. C. Clean washrooms and drinking fountains. Clean glass on doors and windows, and mirrors. Wipe tables, dust shelves. Empty garbage. D. Maintain tools, supplies, equipment and other preventive maintenance as required. E. Assists in performing repairs to plumbing fixtures, electrical equipment, heating and cooling systems. F. Light performance of carpentry work such as wall repair, floor repair and replacement, painting and patching, and wallpapering. G. Assist in the repair and maintain library equipment. H. Setting up for conferences and meetings. I. Notify maintenance contractors of needed repairs to building systems subject to Director’s approval. J. Monitor other service personnel/contractors working in building per supervisor’s direction. K. Re-shelving materials. L. Physical processing of materials. M. Circulation of materials. N. Routine clerical tasks, including answering of telephones and customer inquiries. O. Shelf reading. P. Shifting materials. Q. Assists Librarian/Library Associates with their duties. R. Other duties as assigned. Scheduled between Monday and Saturday; may require flexibility of hours V. WORK SCHEDULE: VI. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A. High School Diploma or GED B. Valid Minnesota Driver’s License, Class D; preferred CDL Class B C. Ability to operate floor maintenance equipment and repair same. D. Experience in minor major repair of building and/or equipment thereof. E. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS are those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: 1. Repetitive moving, standing, walking, stair climbing, reaching with arms and hands, talking and hearing. 2. Ability to lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds. 3.
