Start of year balance: $5129.90
Current balance:
$3129.90
Our start of the year FAPA account balance was $5,129.90. A $2000.00 deposit to secure
our Boosterthon event has been debited. This leaves us with a current balance of $3129.90 in
the FAPA account. The Boosterthon deposit will be returned to the FAPA account after
our Boosterthon event.
We have a proposed budget for certain committees events as follows:

Military Appreciation Committee : $200.00

We can expect to raise funds through both the Boosterthon and Spirit Wear sales this year.
Head of School Report, Ray Quesnel: Ray welcomed everyone in attendance and thanked
them for coming. Fundraisers - The amount of money raised from the Grand Garage Sale was
mentioned by Ray and in doing so he also promoted his plan for an I.T. room upstairs in the
library. Students would have the opportunity to take online classes in addition to their
regular course work in preparation for college. Ray discussed his 3’A’s plan with the online
learning for academics, boosting our arts department with a music program, offering after
school lessons for our students and expanding our athletic department. Ideas for expanding
our tennis area, offering after school lessons on campus, building a field house on the soccer
field, having a track around our soccer field, bathroom facilities and concessions. Ray also
talked about the possibility an increase with the money raised from fundraisers for the
teachers budget for Professional Development and new blinds for the classrooms. Ray
promoted the FA Golf Cup planned for Thursday, October 15th. He asked for volunteers and
told us that money raised from the event would go toward improving technology on campus.
One parent in attendance requested the money from the garage sale go toward “updating the
cafeteria”. Another parent suggested “shading over the sandbox and benches” for the
playground during our open discussion of the money raised from the garage sale. Ray told the
parents about an US student who is trying to earn a boy scout badge by helping the LS
revamp the gardens. He also mentioned the program of freshman students who volunteer to
help in the LS as an elective. Currently FA has 18 board members consisting of trustees,
alumni, parents and people from across town.
Head of MS/US Report, Virginia Satisky: Virginia discussed DynaCal and passed out her
Middle and Upper School report for August/September.
Head of LS Report, Keith Blades: Keith talked about Lego Robotic Teams. He said they are
working on sign ups now and for a student to be considered for the team they would need to
do an application and have a teacher recommendation. After school Science Olympiad is in
need of parent coaches. There are 18 activities with a tournament in the spring. Enrichment
Activities after school will start the week of September 7, 2015. Registrations were due to Kim
Kubit by the end of the week, 9/4. For those interested in the after school activities please see
Kim in the LS office. Our first LS assembly was held in the new gym on 9/4. LS assemblies
will be once a month on a Friday (Kim emailed out the assembly schedule for the school year).
At that time box tops will be collected. Box Tops are easy money for our school. The following
are ways to earn money for our school at no cost. Grocery shopping at Harris Teeter (code
#1985), Office Depot (#70061065), Target (RED card purchases) and Amazon Smile. Photo
Day was held on 9/4 with ID Concepts on campus. All the fundraising events and “easy
money” ideas are on the FA website under GIVING.
Update from Sarah Moorman, President FAPA: Back to school senior breakfast was held
courtesy of the Hospitality committee. Student store is no longer associated with FAPA. A
teacher Appreciation breakfast is planned for 12/11. Teacher Appreciation lunch is scheduled
for May 6th. Spirit Wear money will go to FAPA. Spirit Wear was introduced to the parents by
Mary Jon Barkman. More information to follow, but we have just a few key points to include:
t-shirts for the lower school with Fayetteville Academy on the front, hoodies, clear H2O bottles
and Polos. Polo shirts for sport clubs to wear in competition and to represent FA. Eagle Club

The new school year seems to have gotten off to a good start. Students have been assessing their courses
to ensure they are appropriately challenging. Pam Darden, College Counselor, has been working closely
with Upper School students to review schedule changes from a college perspective.
Back-to-School Night went well as parents rotated through their child’s schedule to meet their teachers
and hear information about their classes.
Parents may sign up for Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 1-2. Sheets are located on the wall
outside each teacher’s classroom. The final day to sign up is September 29 so that teachers will have
adequate time to prepare.
The Honor Council members spoke to each grade level to explain our Honor Code before students signed
the pledge. A list of nominees for Honor Council members was prepared by the faculty last spring, and
then each grade level selected the member(s) for their grade level. Members are: 9th grade – Holden
Goetz; 10th grade – Frank Whitworth; 11th grade – Emma Majerske and Jacob Salzberg; 12th grade – David
Hannah and Khyla Haddock. Faculty advisors are Mrs. Connie Koonce (Chair), Dr. Alan Johnston, and Mrs.
Amanda Gilis.
Clubs will make brief presentations at an upcoming assembly to explain what their club does. Following
that assembly, students will have an opportunity to sign up for the clubs they are interested in joining. All
clubs are based on student interest and their desire to participate.
Parents may order the 2016 Fayetteville Academy Yearbook online at yearbookforever.com . The “early
bird” rate of $70 is available through October 6.
Grade levels will soon be discussing activities that they would like to do on Volunteer Day.
