Fayetteville Academy Parents Association (FAPA) Meeting Minutes
Meeting – Tuesday, November 3, 2015
The third meeting of the 2015/2016 school year was held in the cafeteria and called to order by
our FAPA President Sarah Moorman.

Treasure’s Report by Joana Kimsey:
October balance: $3,129.90
Current balance:
$3,394.90
We ended the month of October with a balance of $3129.90. We begin the month of November
with a current balance of $3,394.90. We have had no debits since our last meeting. We have
deposited a total of $265.00 into the account. This deposit came from the sale of spirit wear.
We have not been billed for our purchase of spirit wear yet, but can expect to in coming
months.
Head of School Report, Ray Quesnel: FA’s Fall season recently wrapped up with a successful
season. Varsity boys soccer made it to the championship. FA’s recently hosted a band concert
on November 28. Thank you to all who supported our music program. Basketball and swim
team started their season team practices. Our first boys varsity basketball game of the season
will be November 20th at home against Freedom Christian. The first game for middle school
boys basketball will be 11/12. Professional Development Day was held on 10/23 with a state
development conference for the teachers who chose to attend. Some teachers chose to stay on
campus with their studies for Professional Development Day. Teachers have a yearly budget on
furthering their continuing education. Halloween carnival that was put on by the SGA and
other clubs/classes was a success with over $2500 raised. FA families as well as outside
families came and enjoyed the carnival which helps boost the funds raised by the SGA and
other FA clubs/classes. Sunday, 11/1 was the Maggie Lee Race where over 110 people
registered for the event. Over $2000 was raised and the proceeds go toward organ transplant
research. Veterans Day assembly is planned for 11/10. No school for students, teachers, staff
on 11/11 in recognition of Veterans Day. Texas Roadhouse will have Fayetteville Academy
Spirit Night on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. 10% of all sales will go to FA if you mention
“Fayetteville Academy” to your server. During the Thanksgiving Assembly 11/24 each class will
donate food collected for TC Berrien Elementary. Each class has an assigned item to bring in.
Alumni basketball games will be at FA that night. We will also have the Athletic Hall of Fame
induction ceremony. This is a 2 year completed renovation. The AAA Campaign (Academics,
Arts & Athletics) is now in the quiet stages of the fundraising. This is a 5 year plan to raise
funds for the 3 A’s.
Head of MS/US Report, Virginia Satisky: The Lego Robotics team (4th, 5th, 6th and 7th
graders) will compete on December 5th in Sanford. Recent college representatives were on
campus from: Hollins University, UNC-G, Davidson College, Meredith University and High
Point University. Please email Virginia Statisky student accomplishments for the morning
announcements. The exam schedule for December is in the planning stages. Exams will be
December 14-17.
Head of LS Report, Keith Blades: Halloween week was a successful one. We will have our
Lower School Talent Show on January 23. Signups end this week. Please see Keith Blades to
sign up for the show. The tube slide had two sections repaired/replaced during the month of
October. Family movie night is planned for November 13th. Please be seated on the lower
school lawn by 545. We are planning a spring movie night, but FA will need a sponsor or cosponsor to host this event. FA has received one estimate of $5000-$7000on the shading for the
LS playground sandbox. Waiting on more estimates. Volunteers are needed to help clean up
following the Thanksgiving feast.
Update from Sarah Moorman, President FAPA: Fayetteville Academy is looking for a Fine
Arts Booster Club chairman. If interested, please contact Sarah Moorman. E-News letter has
been a success. Please have all your updates and latest news to Sonya by the Friday before the
FAPA meeting the next week. New blinds have been installed in the LS, MS and US classrooms
(with the exception of the science/technology). Proceeds from the Grand Garage Sale went to
purchase new blinds.
*Teacher Appreciation update given by Sarah Moorman. Teacher breakfast is scheduled for
12/11. Mary Jon Barkman will send out an email to sign up for items to bring for the teacher
appreciation breakfast. Please, if you sign up for an item/items have it on time for the teachers
to enjoy. They will need to be in their classrooms by 8am to greet their students. Teacher
“wish list” binders were available at the FAPA meeting. To see the binders please visit the
office. PDF files will also be emailed out of the teacher wish lists.
*Science Olympiad update. Teams are practicing for their February 2016 competition.
Coaches are still needed.
*Hospitality update given by Sarah Moorman. B & B family bowling day is scheduled for
Sunday, February 21 from 1-4PM. FA has rented out the alley for 125 bowlers.
Parent questions: Ideas for storage of tricycles in the LS not being used. Currently the tricycles
are being stored in Room 4 in the LS. Ideas for a shed?
Next FAPA meeting will be held in the cafeteria on Tuesday, December 1st from 815-915.
