FREARO’S SUPER SCIENCE FAIR
INTRODUCTORY LETTER TO PARENTS
Dear Parents of 3rd-5th graders,
Our school will be having our third annual Frearo’s Super Science Fair! We hope that, with your
enthusiastic encouragement, your child will choose to participate in the fair by preparing a project. The
science fair will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015.
Because this project will be completed outside of school, parent support and assistance are essential to
your child’s success. A general rule of thumb to go by is:
th
5 graders should complete the entire science project by themselves.
4th graders should be able to complete the project with minimal assistance.
3rd graders may need some assistance for part of the project.
Below is a Science Fair Project Selection Form. Please complete the form in its entirety with your child
and have your child return it to their teacher by Monday, December 15, 2014. Forms that are not
completely filled out will not be accepted. Please DO NOT have your child start his/her project until they
have received a packet with all the guidelines. I will send the packet home with your child by December 19,
so that he/she may begin working over Winter Break. We are looking forward to some fantastic projects
again this year! If you have any questions, contact Ms. Magagnotti at [email protected]

EXPERIMENT– You will conduct an experiment to find the answer to your
question/problem. Using The Scientific Method will take you through the correct process of
asking a question, doing some preliminary research, making a hypothesis (your best guess at
how it will turn out), planning and conducting your experiment, and analyzing your results.
INVENTION - Everyone is an engineer! You will use science, math, and creativity to
dream up and design an object or a process to solve a real life problem. Using The Engineering
Design Process will take you through all the necessary steps: asking a question, brainstorming,
planning, creating, testing, and making it even better.
RESEARCH PROJECT - Someone has already found the answer to your question/problem,
and you will look for their answer/solution by reading books, talking to experts, and gathering
information from other sources such as schools and public libraries. Your display board will
have drawings, photographs, charts, graphs, dioramas, etc. Examples: How does a solar cell
work? How does a light bulb operate? How do clouds form?
