Pupil Premium Funding Pupil Premium funding is an important source of finances to improve the experiences and enhance the learning of potentially disadvantaged children. At West Coker we believe we know our children very well and that this is a strength of our school. This helps us to address the individual needs of all our pupils. We also believe that the most important resource in the school is the community who work here. By combining high levels of high quality support with our knowledge of our children, we are able to best promote pupil progress. It is for this reason, that we invest a significant proportion of our Pupil Premium funding in employing staff to both work with the children directly and also enable teachers to spend more time working with smaller groups of children. For 2015-16 we are investing in the training and employment of an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant. She will provide additional emotional support to vulnerable children enabling them to better access the curriculum. We believe that children who are worried, unhappy or otherwise distracted by personal or home issues cannot concentrate on their learning, so it is important to lessen or remove this barrier the best that we can. The remainder of the funding we use to help enable financially disadvantaged children to access the wider curriculum and school-led experiences.
