Ancient Egypt Learning Matrix Y3 Try and earn as many Egyptian gold coins as possible by completing as many of the tasks below as you like. You will be awarded 1 coin for every task you complete. BUT your teacher (being the Pharaoh) and classmates can award more, based on presentation, creativity, effort etc, if they like! You MUST complete the Mandatory Task which is worth 10 coins. Once you have done a task you can cross it off your own sheet. We would like you to try different kinds of activities. Mandatory Task Before our Egyptian Day and Expo (12th June) you will present your poster about one area of Ancient Egypt. This can be any area you like, but you must inform your teacher of the area that you will be researching. What will you choose? Mummies? Gods and Goddesses? The Nile? Please ask for poster paper. Your poster might have some of the following things on it... Heading Subheadings Pictures (printed or drawn) Diagrams (printed or drawn) Text (facts – NOT printed, your own words) Examples Word Smart Use the Link to help you write a sentence in hieroglyphs. You could: write instructions, draw a poster, make a movie or something else (be creative) Create a Calligram for an Egyptian word (remember the ones you made when we were Math/Logic Smart Go to the link and learn about the Ancient Egyptian number system. Can you make up your own problems to share with your class? LINK Picture Smart Design a chart for collecting and counting your gold coins. Make a pyramid out of Lego, or another construction material. Bring it in to share with your class or take a photo and send it to your teacher. Make your own Ancient Egyptian collar/necklace. Bring it in to share with your class… remember to wear it on Egyptian Day! Examples Examples Make some typical Egyptian food by following one of the recipes. How will you create an Egyptian person to go in the desert? Will there be any palm trees in your desert? Will you have the River Nile? Make a net of a pyramid. Can you make it into a 3D pyramid? Write in present tense Write in chronological order Use connectives (When... because... so... this allows... consequently...) include diagrams to help your reader understand (EXAMPLE) canopic jar... Examples Design and carry out an ancient Egyptian survey. E.g. What would be your favourite job in Ancient Egyptian times? Who is your favourite God or Goddess? Present your data in a graph. What have you discovered? Read the story of Osiris LINK. Now turn the story into a cartoon strip. Interview someone about what ‘treasure’ is to them. Plan your questions and then write up or record the answers. Perhaps you could imagine interviewing a fictional character... What would be 'treasure’ to Robinson Crusoe? Can you remember the Snowy Adventure? Could you plan or write an Egyptian Adventure? What would the Snow Beast be? The ancient Egyptians are believed to have invented many things. Can you find out what some of these were? How do they work? Why did they need to invent it? How will you present what you find out? Draw your own wall painting similar to the ones found here – LINK What number facts about Egypt can you discover? How long is the River Nile? How many blocks are in The Great Pyramid? How old was Tutankahmen when he died? Make up an Egyptian game. Gods and Goddesses Top Trumps? Guess the mummified object from its shape? Pyramid Snakes (cobras!) and Ladders… Imagine you are an archaeologist who has discovered an untouched tomb. Write a diary entry or a letter home describing what you find.
