Waste Processing –industrial waste treatment, hazardous wastes and
landfill disposal.
We operate over 200 facilities in England, Scotland and Wales and employ
around 2,500 employees. We recycle 1.2 million tonnes of waste each year.

Role Purpose
To ensure all HWRC’s are being operated and maintained in a safe and
professional manner, as well as in accordance with their Waste Management
Licence, Planning Permission and contractual requirements between the Group
and the client Authority, along with any schemes or initiatives brought in by the
Group and the client Authority.

Key Responsibilities
1) Demonstrate a polite and courteous manner to the public at all times, thereby
providing an exemplary customer service.
2) Direct and advise the public, as well as supervise the deposition of the
household waste, to ensure that the material is deposited in the correct
containers with the aim of maximizing recycling and diversion from landfill.
3) Control and direct the flow of traffic within the Centre to ensure the safety of
the public at all times.
4) Offer assistance to any persons with loading their waste into the appropriate
containers, making sure that all necessary health and safety precautions are
taken.
5) Remove any items, so long as it is safe to do so, within the recycling
containers to prevent contamination. Under NO circumstances should you
climb into a container or onto the walkway handrails.
6) Prevent as many recyclables from entering the general waste containers as
possible, as well as retrieve where possible any recyclables thrown in the
general waste containers. This MUST only be carried out if safe to do so, and
under NO circumstances should you climb into a container or onto the
walkway handrails.

7) To assist the Recycling Team Leaders in controlling and coordinating the safe
and efficient operation of the site in accordance with management
instructions, all health & safety Working Procedures and Legislative
Requirements, Planning Permissions, Waste Management License etc. at all
times.
8) To be aware of the Waste Management License and Working Plan, and
conversant with Risk Assessments, COSHH Assessments, Emergency
Procedures and other relevant health, safety & environmental documents.
9) All Company issued work wear and appropriate PPE MUST be worn at all
times.
10) All accidents, near-misses or dangerous situations to be recorded and
reported in accordance with FCC’s procedures, including any violence,
threats or acts of intimidation against you, as well as any breach of rules, acts

of dishonesty, malpractice or corruption by any member of the public, visitor
to the site, or member of staff.
11) To unlock and lock the site and be responsible for making sure the site is
secure and safe.
12) Keep and maintain the site facilities provided in a clean and tidy manner, and
free from windblown litter, including regular cleaning of gullies where
necessary.
13) Ensure that the site office and toilets are cleaned regularly and do not contain
inappropriate material, or items not approved by FCC.
14) Ensure that all activities at the site are recorded on the daily log and visitors
sign the visitor’s book and maintain any other records required by FCC.
15) Ensure that no unauthorised person is allowed to sort, disturb, remove or
interfere with any material on the Centre.
16) Ensure that the height barriers are in their closed position at all times except
when they have been opened at the request of a householder with a disabled
badge a vehicle servicing the site or a pre-booked van.
17) Ensure that a waste declaration form is completed in respect of any vehicle
suspected of being trade.
18) To ensure that FCC Health and Safety procedures with respect to keeping the
public clear of activities when vehicles service the containers on site or when
compactors are used.
19) Ensure that any non compliant material which is safe to move is placed in the
non compliant container. If in doubt contact the Team Leader or Contract
Supervisor.
20) Apply salt to all frozen areas that constitute a hazard to the public, staff and
on-site contractors.
21) Ensure that only tools and equipment provided by FCC are used and that they
are used in a safe manner, stored away after use and secured at the end of
the working day.
22) Remove all fly-tipped material immediately (if safe to do so) outside the site
and deposit in the appropriate containers.

23) Work on other sites in Medway as required by FCC.
24) To work in accordance with staff rosters and the provision of cover for
planned/unplanned absence.
25) Attend all training courses provided by FCC.
26) Carry out any reasonable and safe duties assigned to you by your Supervisor
or Manager.

The role involves manual handling, standing through-out the working day,
sweeping, general labouring duties etc

Flexible approach to duties, willing to learn and be trained, as the site
multi-tasks wherever possible.

Good verbal and written communication skills – to understand inductions,
training and communication with other site staff, management and the
public.
