Dear Families,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Teresa Moore. This is my
13th year of teaching. I am honored to be your child’s 1st grade teacher here at Manzanita.
I am looking forward to working with you and your child in reaching his/her full potential. We
will have many wonderful experiences and opportunities to learn and grow in the days ahead.
I believe that communication is the key to a great parent teacher relationship. I encourage you to
contact me when you have any questions or concerns. You can send me a note, e-mail me at
tmoore@kusd.org, or call me at 753-6197. I will also do my part by sending out a newsletter
each Month to update you on what we will be doing in class as well as upcoming school events.
Please feel free to participate in your child’s year as much as you are able. Helping hands are
always needed; whether it is reading a story to the class, helping with projects, class parties, or
any other participation that will enrich your child’s classroom experiences.
I am looking forward to a wonderful and exciting year with you and your child! Please read
through the next few pages for classroom procedures. These procedures will be for the whole
school year, so please keep this somewhere so you can use it has a reference.
Red Folder Information
Every Friday your child will be bringing home his/her Red Folder. Inside of the folder
will be any important announcements, newsletter, behavior notes, (if needed), homework and
school work completed in class. If your child receives a behavior note, please sign it and have
your child return it to the teacher. It is very important that your child brings his/her Red Folder
back to school each Monday. This will help to create a routine and continue the communication
between home and school. Any important notes for the teacher or the office staff needs to be put
in the basket that will be by the door as they walk into class in the morning. I will not be
checking backpacks every day. It will be your child’s responsibility to give me notes from home.
If you are worried about something not getting to me, please e-mail the information. Please
check your child’s backpack every day, they will be bringing work home that they might not
have finished in class. Also notes from the office or from me might not be able to wait until
Friday to be passed out.
Homework
The homework is due every Thursday. Please turn in the Tic-Tac-Toe page only with the reading
log filled out on one side and the three activities colored in that you chose to do for the week on
the other side. I will file the Tic-Tac-Toe page in their personal file so I can keep an accounting
of your child’s homework and that it is being done every week. Doing the homework with your
child every week will help your child be successful for the end of the week testing. There will
also be several projects throughout the year that will need to be done at home. Spelling words
should be practiced, the spelling test will be given on Thursday. Sight words which are on the
back of the Read-At-Home paper, will be given on Thursday. The read naturally story should be
practiced as well, the timed test will be given on Thursday. The story we read together in class
will also be on the Read-At-Home paper. This story will be tested for comprehension and
vocabulary meaning on Friday. The first homework packet will have notes attached to each
paper, so you know how to practice with your child and what is expected of them.
Bus Tags
Each student will have a bus tag on their backpack. Please keep this tag on your child’s
backpack, this is to let other staff members know where they are supposed to be. Please if there
are any go home instructions that change, you must send a note, email, or call the office.
Personal Items
Toys and personal valuables should not be brought to school. If they are at school, the child
takes the risk of the items being damaged, lost, and/or stolen. All personal belongings (backpacks, coats, sweaters, and lunch-boxes) should be clearly labeled with your child’s name.
We love to celebrate birthdays. Please let me know in advance if you plan on bringing in
a treat for your child to share with the class. Or you could contact the cafeteria (2 weeks in
advance) and order pizza and cupcakes for a minimal fee. I do have a student with a tree nut
allergy. Please do not bring anything with tree nuts or made in a factory with tree nuts.
Behavior
Please read attached letter that explains, how the clip chart works.
Go Home Changes/Absences
Please always send a note, call the office or e-mail for go home changes. Please do this before
3:00. I only check my email in the morning, lunch and after school. If you are making changes to
go home instructions do not email me in the afternoon, I most likely won’t see it until after
school. If your child is absent please call the school each day he/she is absent, stating the reason.
Please be specific, such as, cold, flu, personal etc. Also follow up with a note when the student
returns. Any go home instructions, being emailed to me should also be sent to the office staff.
This is in case I am not here and I have a guest teacher.
