Other Classroom Information ***Thursday Folders: Every Thursday your child will be bringing home a Thursday Folder. It is important to check this folder as it contains important information from the office and the classroom. This is another tool that I will use as a line of communication between school and home. The left side of the folder will be assignments and other materials that should stay at home. The right side of the folder will be for papers that need to be returned to school. ***Snack and Water Bottles: We will have time each morning where the students are allowed to have a HEALTHY snack. This healthy snack will need to be brought from home. It is okay for the students to have water bottles in the classroom so these can be brought in as well. ***Homework: Each night your child should spend at least 30 minutes on homework. The two subjects that your child will have homework in nearly every night are Reading and Math. Your child should read for 20 minutes each night. Along with reading, nearly every night your child will have a math study link that will need to be done and brought back to school the next day. In addition to Reading and Math, your child should study his/her spelling words and practice math facts on a regular basis. Assume the assignment is due the next day unless otherwise noted in the assignment notebook. Please check your child’s assignment notebooks each night to see what his/her homework consists of. I will also be updating the homework page on my website each night if you need to double check. *** Late Homework Notice: If your child has a late assignment, he/she will be bringing home a late homework notice to be signed. This is meant to be a communication tool between school and home to inform you that an assignment was late. Your child will need to complete the missing assignment for the following day otherwise he/she will miss a recess to complete it. I do keep track of all of the late homework notices your child receives to help me put a grade on his/her report card. *** Make Up Work: If your child misses school, his/her work will be compiled with a “While You Were Out” sheet attached. The work and sheet will be ready by 2:45 and put on the table just as you enter the front doors unless other directions are given (Example: Please send homework home with so and so). The work can be picked up anytime before 6:00 PM. If you are unable to pick up your child’s missing work the same day they are absent, it will be sent home with him/her on the day he/she returns. *** Assignment Notebooks: Each night your child will be bringing home his/her assignment notebook that shows the homework that they have for that night. Please check your child’s assignment notebook and initial it each night. If the work was difficult, not brought home, or not finished, please make a note on the bottom of the assignment notebook page. Thank you for your help with this. *** Volunteers: I welcome anyone who would like to volunteer in the classroom. I love to have parents involved with what goes on in our classroom whether it be working with the kids, or doing things for the room. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the blue volunteer form and send it in with your child. After I get all of the forms, I will make out a schedule and give one to you. The district has a new policy and form that must be filled out before parents can work in the classroom or attend field trips. Please stop in the office and get one as soon as possible. *** 10-Day Schedule: Instead of a Monday through Friday schedule, we have a 10-day schedule. So, for example, instead of having Phy. Ed. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, we will have Phy. Ed. on Days 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, and 9 (which could be any day of the week). I am including a 10-Day Schedule calendar in addition to our class schedule for you to refer to throughout the year. You can also check the district’s or my webpage to find out what day it is. *** Weekly Newsletters: Please look for my weekly newsletter in your child’s Thursday Folders most weeks. More information regarding our curriculum and classroom routines will be communicated there.
