Mrs. Marozas in first grade! August 2015 Dear First Grader, Hi there! Welcome to first grade. I hope you have been enjoying your summer vacation. Did you have lots of time to relax and play and enjoy the few HOT days of summer? Did you jump in the rain puddles?! I have had a very good summer. I did some work around the house and went on a couple of trips. Of course, I played with Laney too! (Have you met her yet?) I have many fun and exciting activities planned for us. We will be learning about … animals, weather, maps, plants, and all sorts of other things! We have loads of math games to play. Can you count to 100? You will soon! You will make new friends and stretch your brain! Also in first grade, you will have one day a month when you will help me do some teaching! BUT, the BEST part of first grade is learning to read well and enjoying the wonderful world of books all on your own! I can’t wait to hear you read!! Laney loves to listen to kids read too! Our first reading unit is called “Let’s Read!” We’ll be reading some very silly poems (One is about a purple cow!) and some stories too. I would like to invite you and your parents to our “Meet and Greet” on Thursday, September 3, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. We can meet each other, and you can see our room and get all of your supplies put away (so bring them all with you!) See you soon! To get to our room, you won’t need any help at all! Just look for the birds flying down the hall. They will lead you right to our room, so you (and your parents ) won’t have to worry about getting lost! Kindergarten teachers will also be there to help you find your way. One last thing! My name is kind of hard to figure out. It’s almost pronounced like “more roses,” but the end rhymes with kiss or miss. (MU-RO'-ZISS) I hope the end of your summer turns out great! Make sure you spend as much time outside as you can – you know how soon the cold weather moves in! SEE YOU SOON!! ~Mrs. Marozas (Mrs. Marozas just before first grade) School Supplies! There are a few things you will need for first grade. So to start your shopping, here is a list of items you will need on the first day of school – or even better, at our “Meet & Greet” time. Parents – please do not send in any extra supplies; I know they’re fun and tempting, but we just don’t have room in our desks!! Please take all supplies out of packages. 1. 2 boxes of (Crayola, please) crayons, 24 count 2. 2-3 large pink erasers 3. a 5x8 inch plastic supply/pencil box (please, no pouches) 4. 10-12 pencils #2 – already sharpened, please! 5. 8-10 glue sticks 6. 1 two-pocket folder, laminated, sturdy, any color or design 7. an extra sweater/ sweatshirt to keep in school – WITH YOUR NAME IN IT!! 8. an art shirt (old t-shirts or men’s shirts work well) 9. a regular size box of Kleenex 10. a backpack, of course! *Parents – When helping your child choose a backpack; please keep in mind a few points. Vinyl/plastic backpacks rip very quickly. Regular zippered packs are much easier to use than ones with clips and/or ties. Please avoid strings, if possible. Your child will need a full sized backpack – not a “mini.” Backpacks with wheels are not necessary in first grade. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS ON/IN EVERYTHING YOU BRING TO SCHOOL!! OPTIONAL/EXTRA SUPPLIES If you’d like, your child may want to bring in… A container of disinfecting surface wipes (Clorox or Lysol) Ziploc bags – sandwich or gallon size An extra “box” of “snack” A box of Crayola markers If you have any problems getting your supplies, just let me know!
