THIRD GRADE PARENT
SUPPORT TIPS
Monday – Thursday after school:
(A 3rd grade goal is to have students eventually do the following “independently”, but they will need
assistance at first to get used to this new routine and their planners!)

Please establish a daily homework routine. Check the homework planner in the binder with your
child each night to review their assignments/tests/due dates, etc. Homework is due the following
day in 3rd grade.
Optional: You may initial the planner each night if you feel this helps motivate them.
It gives them positive approval for completing their homework.

Please check in to see if your child understands the directions and concepts. DO check for
neatness and completeness!! Reading Comprehension pages completed Mon./Tues. should have
the evidence for each answer underlined and numbered. Please do not correct your child’s
homework. They need to become good proofreaders and “checkers”.
Perfect papers are not expected, but homework completion is reflected on the report card effort
grade. We will review the homework together in class.

Train them to bring their binders to you with a pen for your quick initials on their READING
LOG (20 + min.) & BASIC MATH FACTS (5 min.). Their SPELLING PERSONAL WORD
QUIZ (given by an adult, if possible) is due each Friday.
It is always located on the back of their Reading/Fact log. We will begin PERSONAL WORD
QUIZZES the week of October 6th. The first PWQ is due Friday, October 10th.

Your child will have “Quiet Recess” to complete unfinished homework or class work. They will
be outside at the lunch tables. We keep track of homework completion and use this information for
their report card.

Thursdays:

Ask your child for their “Thursday Folder”. All of the flyers and letters that are from the office
plus class work will be inside. Sign and return the folder empty Friday, if possible. If folders don’t
come home Thursday, which may happen, please check for them on Friday.

Remind your child to wear Meadow Park colors, blue and green, each Friday.
It’s “Spirit Day”!
Meadow Park Mustang Express: Please be sure to read and review this on-line
email newsletter weekly. Important information about school-wide functions will be noted here.
