3C’s Monday Memo November 2, 2015 . Math: This week we are working on counting coins and working with money. It would be a good idea to give your child a handful of coins and have him/her count them up for you! If you don’t already have multiplication flash cards, I would purchase a set for your student. Multiplication starts November 16th. Memorizing math facts is very important in 3rd grade. REFLEX is available at home, 7 days a week. Social Studies: Today we reviewed for the Geography unit test and the students need to review the notes and chapter 1 in the Our World book. Test is tomorrow. Wednesday we will be learning about Veteran’s Day and then on Thursday we will begin the natural phases unit over the sun, moon, and earth. Reading: This week we are focusing on vocabulary and cause and effect. New reading logs will be in your child’s binder. This quarter ALL areas must be filled out under the correct genre. To receive a 4, 10 books and a completely filled out log needs to be handed in. Thanks for your help at home. Word Study This week is week 1 with choice on Tuesday and Thursday. The new choice list will be glued in the notebook. If you have time, sorting nightly helps students that need extra practice. Writer’s Workshop: We will be working on writing poetry this week. Star Students: This week’s girl star student is Caroline. No boys turned a poster. I am still missing posters for both boys and girls that haven’t shared yet. We look forward to them sharing their posters and any extra pictures of favorite memories they would like to share. Announcements: Wear Red, White, and Blue on Wednesday. American Education Week is next week, November 20th. 8:00 - 8:30 Book Fair 8:30 - 9:00 AEW Lesson ASAP this week! One of the ways I love to get to know my students is by watching what they do outside of school. If I can work it into my schedule, I would like to come to your child’s game, recital, etc. If you send me the schedule for the event, I will try to work it into mine. Thanks for working with me to make sure the students have nutritional snacks. Thanks for signing the planner daily and helping with homework as well! If you have read this memo, print out a copy and sign for your child. He/she will receive an extra sticker for good behavior chart!! Due Tuesday morning. Have a great week!
