Minutes
September 10, 2014
Present – Marsha Lupi, Jennifer Kane, Megan Possinger, Candice Carter, John Kemppainen, Jeffrey Cornett, Karen
Patterson, John Venn
Call to order – The meeting was called to order at 9:35am.
Minutes – The minutes were approved as written.
Leadership team discussion before Announcements
COEHS course enrollment is at 99.69 percent.
Dr. Colom is creating an integrated marketing and strategic plan. As it relates to COEHS, how will the leadership team
facilitate with him to be included in marketing and recruiting that relates to work within the COEHS? How can we
maintain a high profile to the COEHS non-high profile student?
Dr. John Kantner, Associate Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School
Dr. Kantner distributed the BOT quarterly data report, which highlights UNF’s strengths and focuses on research imports
and outcomes. Discussions continued on three areas of focus –Process of grants, indirect costs, and distribution of
funding.
Policies for Supplemental Compensation – Faculty should contact their department chair and ORSP regarding
regulations, policies, and compliance. ORSP is happy to assist department meetings with mini presentations/ workshop.
Announcements
Department Chairs gave updates on the status of their department searches.
Dr. Kane reported on her most recently attended Associate Dean’s meeting – There is a new petition for pre-certification
students. The approval queue requirement is advising -dean–registrar office. This form is a new tracking system to
ensure the student has legitimate reasons for petitioning.
Megan Possinger shared the latest rankings of the US News in terms of graduate school education.
Dr. O’Farrell reported that September 19 is the deadline for submission of the spring 2015 intern applications.
Dr. O’Farrell also shared that she has been contacted by individuals representing public and private schools and
community agencies looking for field experiences, tutoring, and volunteer work. Before sending a student on a course
assignment have an agreement in place and appropriate waivers signed. Dr. Kane will work with Dr. O’Farrell to get the
appropriate information out to faculty.
Sandy Loach Miller will be out longer than expected due to surgery on her foot. Todd Parrish will attend the CAPP
meeting to learn and maintain degree audits. Todd will be cleared to build degree audits and receive the proper training
to maintain them.
Excess hours – EDIE and FSE will work together to revisit programs for compliance of 120 hours. Work on APCs.
Dr. Kane will be working with Tiffany King to provide a list of exempt courses of exempt hours in our internship and
practicum courses.
Dr. Kemppainen will inform program leaders about courses approved as a substitute for a degree audit. Advising needs
to know all approved substitute courses so the degree audit can be manually changed before financial aid can deny a
student’s financial aid funding.
Long Range Planning Committee (MHL)
Kim Cheek will convene a group. Dr. Lupi shared a point of information handout with the leadership team and discussion
will continue at the October 8 meeting.
Faculty Associates (MHL)
The faculty associate application will be uploaded to the COEHS website today. Dr. Lupi will send an information email
to all COEHS faculty. The deadline to submit applications is October 15. The review process will have to meet within twoweeks of the deadline date. Dr. O’Farrell will secure a date for an information session by the end of the week.
Other Business
Department recruitment $$ - Dr. Lupi would like have recruitment material ideas to the dean’s office by November 1.
To ensure the safety of our deaf faculty Dr. Lupi will follow up with Dan Endicott on the need to send an emergency text
to all deaf faculty in the case of an emergency situation.
Due to the population of the COEHS building, the traffic outside the building can be very dangerous. Dr. Lupi will talk to
Shari Shuman to address the need for physical facility golf carts to avoid the walkway outside the front doors of building
57.
The leadership team discussed the upcoming COEHS 1st open house event on September 17.
Dr. Kane expressed her appreciation for the conversations regarding the new potential undergraduate degree in training
and development. Moving forward thought will be given to a degree in organizational leadership which is currently
offered in Louisville, Kentucky. A doodle poll is currently in place for a next meeting date.
Saturday, October 18 will be UNF’s open house. There will be two sessions - 10:00am and 10:45am.
