El Camino College Office of the President Minutes of the College Council Meeting of April 28, 2003 Present: Ms. Caldwell, Ms. Ely, Dr. Fallo, Mr. Hanson, Dr. Hata, Mr. Neesby, Ms. Pickens, Dr. Simon, Ms. Smith, and Ms. Stewart Sacramento Visit President Fallo was in Sacramento last week. He was worried that the equalization issue would become the focal issue and then divert attention from equitable cuts. They are not going to present the equalization issue at this time. It was decided that only students would participate in this visit, along with President Fallo and Ann Garten. Associated Students Organization will be sending six students. Budget Update President Fallo has asked the Vice Presidents to submit $2M more in cuts to the Board of Trustees. Our first priority is to optimize FTES and then next to try to maintain employment of regular employees. We will be looking at programs not fully funded by the State and/or weak programs. We cannot name these programs at this time. Ms. Smith requested that someone speak to employees to be affected and give them this information. If employees have any recommendations or suggestions they should be presented in writing as soon as possible. Vic Hanson distributed April 25, 2003 memo regarding Positions Exempted from Freeze, April 25, 2003 memo regarding vacant positions, March 31, 2003 draft memo regarding proposed budget reductions, and the 2003-2004 Tentative Budget General Fund Unrestricted – Income. Senate Consultation Issues The Senate will vote on the proposal to have Academic Senate ratify actions of the Planning and Budgeting Committee.
