March on March There are two marches planned for the month of March. On March 17th there will be a march on the Capitol and on March 28th there will be a march on the Governor’s office. The students are now focusing on the March 17th March on the Capitol. If there are enough students to warrant, ASO funds will be used to transport students by bus. The students will be placing signs on campus advertising the budget cuts to encourage more student participation. The students will also participate in a letter writing campaign. Budget The Legislative Analysts came out with an analysis of the budget and suggest increasing student to $25 a unit. The Community College cuts in the Senate and the Assembly are $130-140M, the Governor is still talking about increasing that number by $100M. Mr. Hanson will have numbers this Friday. The President’s Newsletter will go out this week and will give a picture on how disproportionate the cuts to Community Colleges are. Accreditation Report Dr. Hata distributed Draft 2 of the accreditation report response. Ms. Stewart expressed concern about the faculty representation on the Planning and Budgeting Committee (PBC). Ms. Stewart believes that according to the California Code of Regulations that faculty should have more representation on the PBC. Other committee members expressed concern that more representation by faculty would dilute their representation. Ms. Stewart also feels that collegial consultation needs to be improved.
