People credited with this unit standard are able to prepare to assemble and assemble fabrics into a rope for dyeing, and maintain a clean work area. Explanatory notes 1 Performance of the elements must comply with the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. 2 A rope is an assembly of lengths of fabric into a continuous form for jet, jig, or winch dyeing. 3 Definitions Workplace procedures refer to the verbal or documented procedures for performing activities including health and safety, operational, environmental, and quality management requirements. They refer to manuals, manufacturer's specification, codes of practice, or policy statements. Product specifications refer to the document which accompanies each manufacturing order. This specifies all of the parameters for production of the yarn batch. This may include the fibre specification, the shade, dye bath parameters, machinery to be used and finishing procedures. Competenz SSB Code 101571 New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA Expiring unit standard 5397 version 8 Page 2 of 3 Evidence requirements 1.1 Fabric lengths are identified according to product specifications. 1.2 Sewing machine is prepared for use according to workplace procedures. 1.3 Fabric is prepared in accordance with workplace procedures. 1.4 Fabrics are unrolled without snags. 1.5 Fabric lengths are identified according to workplace procedures. 1.6 Fabric lengths are assembled into a rope according to product specifications and workplace procedures. Range 1.7 number of ropes, combination of fabrics in a rope, sequence of fabrics in a rope. Lengths are sewn into rope according to workplace procedures. Range join is secure, seam is flat without overlaps, air gaps where specified, slit lines aligned. Outcome 2 Maintain a clean work area. Evidence requirements 2.1 Work area is cleaned to prevent contamination. 2.2 Equipment is maintained according to workplace procedures. This unit standard is expiring.
