This unit standard is for people new to the leather industry or
those wishing to develop their technical skills in leather
manufacture.
People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate
knowledge of: pretannage stages used in hide leather
manufacture; chemical mechanism of pretannage stages;
pretannage hide and skin characteristics; and potential damage
associated with incorrect pretannage processing.

chemical interaction with skin system and modifications to skin system
achieved.
