This unit standard is for people new to the fellmongery or
leather industries or those wishing to develop their technical
skills in leather manufacture.
People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate
knowledge of: the requirements of finished leathers; quality
control checks carried out on raw material and chemical
supplies; quality control checks carried out on leather
manufacturing processes; and tests carried out on finished
leather.

Requirements of finished leathers are identified and defined in terms of
manufacturers' needs and customers' needs relating to specified end uses.

resistance, lightfastness, rubfastness, flex resistance, lastability.

Outcome 2
Demonstrate knowledge of quality control checks carried out on raw material and chemical
supplies.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Checks carried out on hide and skin supplies into a tannery are identified and
described.

Checks carried out on process chemicals received for tannery use are identified
and described.
