Classification Retail, Distribution, and Sales > Distribution Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Definitions Hazardous substances means any substance with one or more of the following intrinsic properties: explosiveness, flammability, capacity to oxidize, corrosiveness, toxicity, ecotoxicity with or without bioaccumulation; or which on contact with air or water (other than air or water where the temperature of pressure has been artificially increased or decreased) generates a substance with any one or more of the above properties. Distribution facility refers to a workplace where the primary focus is on storage and distribution of stock. Organisational procedures refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are formally documented, or generally accepted within the workplace. 2 Performance of the outcomes of this unit standard must comply with the requirements of the following: Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996; Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995; Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, other published statutes, regulations, codes of practice, guidelines and standards relevant to their particular work place and their subsequent amendments and replacements. Range 1.3 evidence is required for three different workplace hazards. Hazardous substances in the workplace are identified, handled and stored safely. Range 1.4 evidence is required for three different hazardous substances. Handling and storage requirements for hazardous substances are met in accordance with organisational and legislative requirements. may include but are not limited to – precautions, labelling, signage, combinations, quantity, temperature, light, humidity, security, container, packaging, proximity to other goods, stock rotation, equipment; evidence is required for three different hazardous substances. Range 1.5 Location of emergency and safety equipment is identified and operational requirements are met in accordance with organisational procedures. Range 1.6 evidence is required for fire extinguisher and two other pieces of equipment. Emergency procedures are identified and complied with in accordance with organisational procedures and legislative requirements.
