Purpose
People credited with this unit standard are able to maintain
safety, and comply with safety requirements for handling
hazardous and dangerous goods in a distribution facility.

Explanatory notes
1
Definitions
Hazardous substances means any substance with one or more of the following
intrinsic properties: explosiveness, flammability, capacity to oxidize, corrosiveness,
toxicity, ecotoxicity with or without bioaccumulation; or which on contact with air or
water (other than air or water where the temperature of pressure has been artificially
increased or decreased) generates a substance with any one or more of the above
properties.
Distribution facility refers to a workplace where the primary focus is on storage and
distribution of stock.
Organisational procedures refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures
which are formally documented, or generally accepted within the workplace.

Performance of the outcomes of this unit standard must comply with the
requirements of the following: Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996;
Health and Safety in Employment Regulations 1995; Health and Safety in
Employment Act 1992, other published statutes, regulations, codes of practice,
guidelines and standards relevant to their particular work place and their subsequent
amendments and replacements.

isolate, or minimise each hazard.

Please note
Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA,
before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
