Definition
Plant refers to the plant or unit at which the person is employed.

Performance of the elements of this unit standard must comply with the following
enactments: Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992; Resource Management Act
1991; Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996; and Health and Safety
in Employment Regulations 1995.

The Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA) is responsible for assessing
and approving hazardous substances and, where appropriate, setting controls on the
way the substance is used. Any questions relating to the provisions for hazardous

generation, water treatment, hydrocarbon processing and electrical generation in

Identify boiler house chemicals and explain the required safety procedures.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Chemical data is located and interpreted to identify chemicals and precautions
for their handling, storage, and usage.
data – Hazchem code, chemical data sheets, material safety data
sheets, container labels.
Range
1.2
First aid procedures for exposure to each plant chemical are explained in
accordance with its material safety data sheet.
1.3
Spill handling procedures for each plant chemical are located and described in
terms of precautions and actions to be taken.
1.4
Hazards of each plant chemical are described in terms of their effect on
personnel, plant, and environment.

NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
