Organisational procedures refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are formally documented, or generally accepted within the workplace. Outcome 1 Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety requirements in a distribution facility. Evidence requirements 1.1 Requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act are identified and described in accordance with organisational procedures. Range 1.2 may include but are not limited to – emergency procedures, hazard identification and management, first aid, plant isolation. Emergency procedures are outlined in accordance with organisational procedures. Evidence requirements 2.1 Housekeeping is maintained in accordance with organisational procedures. Range may include but is not limited to – cleanliness, freedom from damage, correct placement, correct packaging, clear labelling, special requirements met. 2.2 Protective clothing suitable for the task is selected and worn. 2.3 Hazardous situations in own working areas are identified, reported and action is taken to eliminate, isolate, or minimise the hazards in accordance with organisational procedures and legislative requirements. Range 2.4 may include but are not limited to – lifting, noise, dust, fumes, spillages, ventilation, lighting, confined spaces, stacking, machinery. Equipment is maintained in working order and malfunctions and damage are reported and rectified in accordance with organisational procedures. Range may include but are not limited to – wood, paper, textiles, flammable liquids, combustible solids, gases, grease, live electrical equipment, dangerous goods area. 3.2 Fire extinguishers suitable for different types of fire are identified and located. 3.3 Use of fire extinguishers is explained according to manufacturer's operating instructions. Evidence requirements 4.1 Properties of hazardous substances are identified. Range 4.2 identification and characteristics of substances that are explosive, flammable, oxidizers, corrosive, toxic, ecotoxic, spontaneously combustible. Procedures for handling and storing hazardous substances are described in accordance with organisational procedures and legislative requirements. one example of each of – segregation, separation, access for fire crews and equipment. Range 4.3 Any hazardous substances in workplace are handled and stored in accordance with organisational procedures and legislative requirements. This unit standard is expiring.
