Explanatory notes 1 All workplace practices must meet any applicable and recognised codes of practice, and documented workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures for personal, product, workplace health, safety, and environmental matters, and the obligations required under current law including the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992, Resource Management Act 1991, and their subsequent amendments. 2 Workplace practices refer to the documented procedures for the machine and/or workplace. 3 Jobs undertaken for this unit standard must include work for a minimum sheet size of A3 and must include halftones. 4 To determine candidate’s ability to produce close register work, work must include jobs which pass through the press two or more times. 5 Candidates undertaking this unit standard must provide evidence of normal colour vision. Evidence requirements 1.1 Plate is mounted on press in accordance with the machine operator’s manual. 1.2 Roller defects are rectified in accordance with workplace practices. Range 1.3 perished, swollen or shrunken ends, blemishes, glazing. Plate inking rollers are set to the plate and the oscillator in accordance with the machine operator’s manual. Outcome 2 Make ready the printing press for two or more colour close register sheet-fed offset work. Evidence requirements 2.1 Ink sequence order is determined to meet the job requirements. Range ink drying, paper stretch, overprint finishes, backing up. 2.2 Make ready is carried out for the first colour. 2.3 Make ready is carried out for second and/or subsequent colours, ensuring that both fit and register are achieved. 2.4 Auxiliary equipment is positioned and set to suit the requirements of the job specifications. Range may include – numbering units, imprinting units, perforating devices, perfecting devices. Outcome 3 Print two or more colour close register sheet-fed offset work. Evidence requirements 3.1 First colour is printed to meet the requirements of the job specifications. 3.2 Second and/or subsequent colours are printed to meet the requirements of the job specifications. 3.3 Production standards are maintained throughout the print runs. Evidence requirements 4.1 Quantity printed is checked against job documentation before wash up is commenced or plate removed from cylinder. 4.2 Any discrepancies in quantity are rectified or reported in accordance with workplace practices. 4.3 Job documentation is completed in accordance with workplace practices. may include, but is not limited to – job sheets, time sheets, electronic data storage. Range 4.4 Printed substrate is prepared for forwarding to the next production process.
