People credited with this unit standard are able to: carry out a job analysis for a department in an automotive business; determine the training needs of an automotive department; prepare an automotive training programme; plan a training session; and implement the instruction on a one-to-one basis. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Carry out a job analysis for a department in an automotive business. Evidence requirements 1.1 All the job functions within the department are identified. 1.2 For each job function all the tasks required are itemised, and those for which on-the-job training is possible are highlighted. 1.3 A task analysis sheet is prepared for each highlighted task, showing the task elements, and the skills and knowledge required to perform the task. Evidence requirements 2.1 The current skills of each staff member are identified. 2.2 The training needs for each staff member are determined, and the reasons why these needs should be met are established. Range to enable proficient performance in his or her current job function, to enable proficient performance in another job function at a similar level, to enable promotion to a higher position. Outcome 3 Prepare an automotive training programme. Evidence requirements 3.1 The training needs of each staff member are translated into learning outcomes, prioritised, and arranged into a personalised training programme. 3.2 The training needs of all staff members are incorporated into a department training programme showing the type of training needed and who needs it. 3.3 A training schedule is developed which aligns the training with staff availability, department work load, and the availability of appropriate tasks and equipment. Outcome 4 Plan a training session. Evidence requirements 4.1 The training task and the level of competence required are determined. 4.2 A training plan is developed of how best to teach each element of the task, highlighting key points and using a task analysis sheet as a guide. 4.3 A training plan is developed to ensure that the training is ongoing, to determine whether the trainee has acquired the intended skills, and to allow evaluation of the training. Evidence requirements 5.1 The objectives of the training (learning outcomes) are explained to the trainee, so that the trainee understands what is expected. 5.2 The trainee is instructed as to what preparatory study is necessary and when training will take place. 5.3 The training is carried out according to a structured training plan. 5.4 An evaluation is carried out to determine where improvement can be made in the delivery of the training.
