Purpose
This unit standard is for people in the automotive industry.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate
knowledge of payment types; demonstrate knowledge of
legislation relating to the sale of goods; and carry out office
procedures in an automotive company.

Explanatory notes

The following legislation and amendments are required to be consulted and followed
where applicable:
Consumer Guarantees Act, 1993;
Fair Trading Act, 1986;
Privacy Act, 1993;
Sale of Goods Act, 1908.

procedures, and requirements of the company involved, and the ethical codes of
relevant professional management.

Outcome 2
Demonstrate knowledge of legislation relating to the sale of goods.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Key points of the Consumer Guarantees Act, the Fair Trading Act, and the
Sales of Goods Act are identified in terms of the sale of goods.
Outcome 3
Carry out office procedures in an automotive company.
Evidence requirements
3.1
The customer payment handling policy is verified according to company policy.
3.2
The Point of Sale system is operated according to company policy.
3.3
Payments are processed, and sales documentation is completed accurately and
legibly and complies with legislative requirements.
Range
invoice, receipt, cash, cheques, credit and debit cards, motor
industry vouchers.
3.4
Sales documents are presented to the customer according to company policy.
3.5
Security procedures are followed according to company policy.
3.6
Customer records are maintained according to the company's filing system.
3.7
Credit procedure for returning goods is identified according to company policy.
3.8
The company's banking procedure is identified according to company and bank
requirements.

Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA,
before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses
of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
