People credited with this unit standard are able to: prevent damage to automotive stock in storage; prevent wastage of automotive stock during storage; and maintain stock security in an automotive business. Classification Motor Industry > Automotive Sales Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 The following legislation and regulations and their amendments are required to be consulted and followed where applicable: – Health and Safety in Employment Act, 1992 – Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act, 1996. 2 Reference to company policy means that the standard must comply with any policies, procedures, and requirements of the company involved, and the ethical codes of relevant professional management organisations. 3 Because of the particular nature of this unit standard, it is essential that the practical assessment evidence is obtained from commercial jobs in the workplace under normal workplace conditions. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Prevent damage to automotive stock in storage. Evidence requirements 1.1 Conditions causing damage to automotive stock are identified and rectified using methods applicable to the type of stock. Range hanging stock, large and/or heavy items, small item stock, fragile items, perishable stock, hazardous goods. Evidence requirements 2.1 Factors causing wastage of automotive stock are identified. Range breakage, soiling, tears, fading, scratches, poor storage, water damage, damage by ingress of foreign matter, poor handling, poor stock rotation, unsealed packages, incorrect ticketing. 2.2 Automotive stock is checked for condition according to company policy, and any wastage and damage found is reported to the supervisor. 2.3 Cause(s) of automotive stock wastage are rectified according to company policy. Range repositioning of stock, environment changes, repackaging, changes in handling and storage procedures. Outcome 3 Maintain stock security in an automotive business. Evidence requirements 3.1 Types of shop theft and typical techniques are identified. Range palming, blocking, handling, changing, switching, concealment, hit and run. 3.2 Prevention methods are applied according to company policy. 3.3 Procedures in the event of a security breach are followed according to company policy. 3.4 Areas of security risk through staff theft are identified. Range 3.5 Areas of security risk through clerical procedures are identified. Range 3.6 cash registers, staff purchases, staff buying privileges, staff related opportunities, computer fraud, inwards goods. receiving and marking, markups, markdowns, stocktake, orders, invoices. Security of high risk, high value automotive items is monitored and maintained according to company policy.
