Purpose
This unit standard is for people in the automotive parts and
accessories merchandising industry. People credited with this
unit standard are able to: pick automotive parts from storage;
pack automotive parts; and dispatch automotive parts.

1
The following legislation, regulations, and their amendments are required to be
consulted and followed where applicable:
Carriage of Goods Act, 1979;
Consumer Guarantees Act, 1993;
Dangerous Goods Act, 1974;
Fair Trading Act, 1974;
Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act, 1996;
NZ Postal Regulations.

Because of the particular nature of this unit standard, it is essential that the practical
assessment evidence is obtained from commercial jobs in the workplace under
normal workplace conditions.
Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Pick automotive parts from storage.
Evidence requirements
1.1
The automotive parts required are ascertained.
Range
1.2
interpreting the customer's requirements and obtaining
documentation, identifying the part.
The automotive parts required are located and retrieved from storage.
Range
locating the retrieval and identification codes and numbers,
checking actual stock level against indicated, inspecting condition
of goods offered for sale, recording stock movement.

Outcome 2
Pack automotive parts.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Safe working precautions are observed throughout the task.
Range
personal safety, safety of others, safety of equipment.
2.2
A packing slip is completed which meets the customer's and company's
requirements.
2.3
The method of dispatch is determined.
Range
2.4
delivery address; nature of the automotive parts to be transported
including hazardous goods; freight methods – courier, air, post,
rail, road transport; freight costs; delivery time; customer's
preference.
Automotive parts are wrapped, packaged and labelled according to the dispatch
method so that they are protected against damage and conform with
regulations.
Outcome 3
Dispatch automotive parts.
Evidence requirements
3.1
The automotive parts to be dispatched are ready at the time specified to the
delivery company.
3.2
The dispatch documentation is acceptable to the delivery company.
This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by
the last date for assessment set out below.
