1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Manager, Student Digital Media Technology, manages the digital media production equipment
checkout service, the Dynamic Media Lab and supervises employees. . The position is responsible for
developing, implementing, and overseeing support strategies regarding the utilization of digital media
production and postproduction tools, techniques, and related services provided for faculty, students,
and staff in this area of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center. The position reports to the Director,
Digital Media Technology.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide
enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage

55% - Management of Student Digital Media Technology
 Continuously improve service and facility infrastructure with the goal of providing state of the
art digital media resources for the campus community
 Schedule work and assign tasks based on providing exceptional service and appropriate
availability for equipment and facilities
 Develop and implement operating policies regarding appropriate use of equipment and
facilities, including equipment check-out, support and maintenance
 Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate professional, temporary staff and student employees
 Define appropriate technology refresh cycles to maintain the latest, leading edge digital media
technology for the campus
 Research trends in digital media technology and recommend purchases
 Coordinate and oversee equipment and lab upgrades and reimaging
 Develop and implement inventory controls and maintenance intervals for equipment and other
assets
 Participate in additional University Libraries and IT policy and planning meetings
20% - Provide Educational Resources for Digital Media Tools and Techniques
 Develop teaching materials for the utilization of digital media technology
 Conduct workshops and individual trainings for faculty, staff, and students
 Consult with and assist students, faculty and staff with the development of multimedia projects
that are produced using the Digital Media Technology area
 Consult with faculty on possible means for integrating digital media technology into curriculum
 Provide individualized, project based training designed to fulfill specific research or educational
goals
 Produce on-line instructional materials and tutorials
20% - Media Production/Special Projects
 Consult with research faculty to design solutions for documenting experiments and generating
primary data
 Collaborate with faculty and staff to produce multimedia productions
 Serve as a consultant and mentor for student generated projects
 Consult with community members on issues regarding digital media production

 Serve on committees and provide consultation in support of University Libraries and campus
technology initiatives
 Provide support for Knowledge Center and campus events
 Assist with the operation and maintenance of Knowledge Center A/V systems
 Provide user assistance for other @One services
 Consult with faculty and recommend curricular elements for classes and academic programs
 Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies particularly in the media/communications
field
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Manager has primary responsibility for decisions regarding all aspects of the Digital Media
Technology service center – policy and procedure, selection of technology, customer service levels,
and day-to-day operation. With limited supervision and consultation with the Director of Digital Media
Technology, the position has autonomy to make decisions about projects and the distribution of work.
The Manager has the freedom to meet with customers, determine needs, create action plans to fulfill
needs, and make decisions and judgments as to the best technology and digital media elements to
recommend or employ to create a successful project. The Manager consults with the Director on
media technology of greater complexity and discusses long-term projects and goals for the center.
Impact:
Poor decisions and performance negatively impact the ability of students and faculty to maximize the
use of media and technology and to successfully complete projects and class assignments that
depend on these operations. Conversely, decisions leading to excellent service contribute to teaching
and learning and promote student success and retention. Management decisions impact the daily
operation of the unit, the fiscal bottom line, and the array of equipment, software, and services
available to support our principal constituency.

 Proficiency in use of a personal computer and current software applications including but not
