1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is

Under the supervision of the Director, Child and Family Research Center (CFRC) and in collaboration
with the Assistant Director, Early Head Start Program Coordinator, the Family and Community
Partnership Coordinator, and the Education and Parent Involvement Coordinator, the Training
Coordinator assists in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of comprehensive
early childhood services including staff training for the CFRC at the University of Nevada, Reno.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide
enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage

30% Supervision
 Serve as site supervisor at the Nevada Early Intervention Services (NEIS) Early Head Start
(EHS) site
 Provide supervision for classified teaching staff
 Conduct performance reviews, on-site consultation, coaching and mentoring
 Review applications, interview and hire University students as classroom teaching assistants
 Conduct monthly new student orientations
 Prepare, distribute, and review student evaluations twice per year
 Work in classrooms as needed to maintain required child/staff ratios
 Monitor child development services provided by assigned teachers
 Monitor curriculum, attendance, screening, and assessment of children
30% Coordination of Disabilities Services
 Monitor the inclusion of EHS children with disabilities, consistent with their Individualized
Family Service Plan (IFSP)
 Coordinate the participation of Early Intervention consultants with EHS parents, teachers and
home visitors for the development, review and implementation of the IFSP
 Meet regularly with NEIS liaison and private providers as needed for case conferencing on
shared families
15% Daily Operations
 Provide support to supervisors in order to maintain daily coverage in EHS classrooms
 Work with Assistant Director to finding substitutes for absent teachers
 Work with Assistant Director to developing schedules for EHS classrooms
15% - Meeting Coordination
 Coordinate Professional Development Days and Teacher Collaboration Meetings
o Secure Nevada Registry approval
o Prepare agendas, sign-in sheets, attendance certificates
o Maintain center training records
5% - CDA Instruction
 Serve as Child Development Associate (CDA) instructor and advisor for all applicable staff
members

Analyze staff experience, training hours, and education record to determine CDA eligibility
Assist CDA candidates in portfolio development
Conduct formal CDA observations
Complete and submit staff CDA observations
5% - Annual Training and Technical Assistance Plan
 Take leadership for developing and evaluating the CFRC annual training plan for classified
staff
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Training Coordinator represents the University of Nevada, Reno EHS program and the CFRC on
issues related to the program and must display highly ethical conduct in the provision of high quality
early childhood education and care. The position is very visible to the public through interaction with
students, faculty, and community groups. The individual works closely with the Director on decisions
associated with the position, but must work independently, with initiative and with some latitude in
decision-making.
Impact:
The work of the Coordinator impacts the quality of service rendered to participants in the program.
This position is visible to the public and therefore has a direct impact on the perception of and
reputation of the EHS program and the CFRC.

Human/Child Development, Early Childhood Education or a related field

Minimum type and amount of work experience, in addition to the above required
education necessary for a person entering this position.
Bachelor’s Degree and two years of experience in early childhood education, human
development or family studies and the administration of a Head Start or Early Head
Start program including staff supervision
