1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Coordinator, Education and Parent Involvement, is responsible for the planning implementation
and evaluation of the comprehensive infant/toddler early care and education service provided at the
Early Head Start sites. The Coordinator assures compliance with the Head Start Performance
Standards, federal rules, and all applicable state and local regulations. The Coordinator provides
leadership, direction, and oversight for both the Education/Early Childhood Development and Parent
Involvement components. The Coordinator reports to the Director, Child and Family Resource Center,
(CFRC).

65% Site supervision of Classified Staff
 Supervise, schedule, hire, train and complete annual performance appraisals for classified
teaching staff
 Coordinate maintenance of facility, materials & equipment
15% Program Management
 Assist in overall program management
 Assist with annual program self-assessment and improvement plans
 Assist with planning and implementation of center annual events
15% Provide leadership for the education program for all children enrolled in Early Head Start
 Utilize screening and assessment results to tailor the curriculum and physical environment to
support each child’s learning and development
 Lead planning and training of parents regarding transition issues, including future placements
and long range goals, strategies, and service priorities for children & families
5% Community Outreach
 Participate in community groups that focus on issues related to children and families
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Coordinator represents the CFRC on issues related to provision of Early Head Start services in
the local community, and the state. The individual works closely with the Director on decisions
associated with the position, but must work independently, with initiative, and with some latitude in
decision-making.
Impact:
The work of the Coordinator impacts the quality of instruction and child care within the unit. The
Coordinator influences the quality of parent involvement services offered by the Center to faculty,
staff, students, and community members for their young children and the resultant impact on the
children’s education and well-being. The position is very visible to the public through interaction with

students, faculty, staff, and community groups, and therefore has a direct impact on the perception of
the Center and its reputation.

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Minimum type and amount of work experience, in addition to the above required
education necessary for a person entering this position.
Bachelor’s Degree and three years of experience working with programs for young
children in a center based or family child care setting using child care environmental
assessment tools; including one year supervisory experience
Preferred Licenses or Certifications: None

Certified in CPR and First Aid
