Level of Freedom:
NVIE is essentially functioning as a comprehensive “consulting business” within NSHE and the
University. In working with NVIE staff, partners and commercial sector clients, the Coordinator needs
to support NVIE staff in order to maintain a positive relationship among partners, providers, clients
and NVIE. Challenges typically can occur in coordinating marketing and networking database
initiatives and resolving complexities to a successful completion in a timely fashion, i.e., unforeseen
difficulties may cause tardiness and set a project behind schedule. Also, staff, partner and client
schedules may present pressing challenges in order to meet certain deadlines.
Impact:
The decisions of the Coordinator affect the effectiveness of NVIE and the unit’s relationship with the
commercial sector, NSHE, the University, and NVIE’s partners. Resourcefulness in coming up with
solutions to issues is needed to successfully resolve such issues in order to keep the NVIE viable and
relationships stable. The decisions determine success in achieving NVIE growth with a positive
impact on NSHE and Nevada’s economy through promotional and administrative support efforts.
Positive client and partner relations are crucial for continued success of the Industrial Extension
program and the positive image that it brings to the University and NSHE.
