1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is

The Project Coordinator, Northern Nevada English Learning Initiative (NNELI) is responsible for
administering the day-to-day details of the project, coordinating the operational activities of the
program and teaching a course which prepares K-12 teachers to teach Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics related content to English Language Learners. The position reports to
the Project Manager, STEM Education.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide
enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage
first with heading and then bulleted information).
50% - Grant Administration
 Manage the day-to-day details and activities of the grant requirements
 Recruit students for the program and advise them regarding the benefits of the program
 Manage data collection and analysis activities in collaboration with Washoe County School
District (WCSD)
 Provide leadership and assure achievement of project goals/objectives/outcomes
 Collaborate with internal and external partners and stakeholders to implement project goals
 Schedule the work plan of the project
 Recruit, hire, train and supervise letter of appointment employees (LOAs)
30% - Operations/Activities Coordination
 Organize, lead and facilitate project-related activities and meetings, including the creation of
agendas, preparation of materials, and collection of evaluation data
 Prepare presentations and meet with project partners and stakeholders to discuss and carry
out project mission
 Work with community partners to identify participants to participate in the project
 Develop and deliver training activities as required by the project
 Facilitate cooperative efforts between NNELI, the Washoe County School District (WCSD)
and/or agencies to ensure coordination of effort
20% - Instruction
 Design and deliver one course per semester, as determined by the NNELI Principal
Investigator (PI)
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Project Coordinator, NNELI requires independent working skills and the ability to make decisions
on a daily basis within guidelines of the program without direct supervision. Status of activities and
progress toward completion are reviewed regularly with the Co-Investigator. The individual works
closely with the NNELI Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator/RRC Director on major decisions
associated with the position and on project goals.

Impact:
The decisions and judgments made by the Project Coordinator are key elements to the success of
NNELI and will impact the ability of the College of Education to receive continued funding for the
project; achievement of goals, objectives, and outcomes of the project and the success of students
and paraprofessionals. Failure to perform could result in loss of funding for the project and ineffective
teaching techniques and less prepared K-12 teachers.

these skills to the participants

management or coordination of professional development programs for teachers
