Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Financial Manager for Nevada Industry Excellence (NVIE) holds broad responsibility for all strategic and tactical aspects of financial management of the department. The position is a member of the department’s three person management and leadership team along with the Director and Deputy Director. The position advises the Nevada Advanced Autonomous Systems Innovation Center (NAASIC) as their business systems are created. At present, the department is comprised of thirteen to eighteen full-time employees, two or more permanent part-time employees, twelve to fifteen volunteer advisory board members, and numerous external contractors, independent contractors and/or letters of appointment staff. The program also operates multiple joint efforts with Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) affiliated campuses and receives effort contribution from NSHE affiliates. The person serves the needs of the diverse parties with an interest in the department. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Level of Freedom: The NVIE Financial Manager acts independently to manage the department’s fiscal interests. This position authors the department’s internal policies and procedures related to financial management with the Director as the final approver. The incumbent has autonomy to establish pricing models and productivity measures. . Impact: The decisions and judgments made by this position directly impact the department’s fiscal viability and growth potential, which affects the financial condition of the University. The decisions and judgments made by the person in this position also contribute to the viability and success of the programs and projects administered by the department, including programs and projects sponsored by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, NIST MEP, and industrial clients. Repercussions could include damages to the department’s viability and reputation and the ability to secure and manage projects for the foreseeable future. The department relies upon the ability to secure and administer external contracts and grants and to hold signature authority on departmental contracts. The person holding this position will be acutely aware of the necessity to maintain and enhance the reputation of the department and the University and to support the reputation of NSHE campuses. 4.
