POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Senior Construction Worker Non-Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Classified F (Skilled Trades) JOB SUMMARY: Perform and coordinate a variety of skilled and general maintenance tasks to include installation, repair of drywalls and sheetrock wall, construction of ceiling tile, carpet, plaster surfaces, structural woodwork, repair and maintenance of plumbing system, hand rails and other general maintenance tasks. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 15% 1. Maintain, repair, install interior finished floors, install ceiling tile, build and repair drywall partitions, wall coverings, repair cement surfaces, carpentry and preventive maintenance. 2. Provide assistance to other trades including maintenance activities such as HVAC, plumbing, landscaping, welding and electrical under the supervision of the appropriate trades personnel. 15% 3. Construct new concrete floors, sidewalks, steps, lays building materials, brick, cinder block, ceramic tile and stone to construct or repair interior and exterior masonry walls. 15% 4. Correct unsafe maintenance conditions; follow safety procedures, assist in general inspections, reports findings and perform maintenance District-wide. Repair and replace cabinet fixtures and woodwork. Fabricate, repair, and replace doors, windows, flooring, glass, and building hardware. 15% 5. Plan/complete construction of cabinets, shelves, partitions from initial layout to plans, specification, blueprints and work orders; selects material/hardware for material estimates. 15% 6. Apply paint, tapes, floats, and texture walls and ceilings. Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance. Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition. 15% 7. EXPERIENCE: Five (5) years related experience. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES: Valid Texas driver’s license and eligible for insurability. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills. Ability to diagnose a wide variety of problems requiring rapid and safe decisions. Knowledge of local plumbing code, pipe fitting. Ability to read and understand blueprints of architectural nature, layout diagrams and calculate material requirements. Knowledge of carpenter’s hand and power tools. Ability to mix paints and use varnishes, shellac, dryers and fillers. Ability to work independently. 2. Equipment Used: Hand tools, power tools.
