POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Manager, VA Advising Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional C JOB SUMMARY: Coordinate and oversee the day-to-day activities of District’s veterans’ services. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Coordinate and oversee the counseling and processing activities of the VA program; ensure compliance with Veteran Administration (VA) and District regulations; provide work direction, training, and guidance to staff; may provide personnel management direction and guidance. YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 20% 2. Provide guidance and assistance to students and staff on VA application process and interpretation of VA rules/regulations; assist with financial aid eligibility; coordinate VA guidance and counseling services with other District departments. 20% 3. Compile and evaluate VA data; prepare and submit reports as required; oversee formal file verification. 20% 4. Work directly with Hazelwood applicants, ensuring proper documentation and processing. 20% 5. Establish and maintain agency and community relationships and networks; provide liaison and/or information exchange as needed. 20% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Assistant Director, Student Financial Aid SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct supervision of assigned to function. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent EXPERIENCE: Five (5) Years SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills in addition to strong analytical skills, detailed oriented, ability to process and analyze information accurately, ability to maintain consistencies in actions and practices, and general management skills required of the position. Software Used: A variety of spreadsheet, word-processing, database, e-mail, and presentation software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion.
