POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Lab Assistant II Non-exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Classified D JOB SUMMARY: Position is responsible for providing direct tutorial, training, and/or instructional lab support to students and laboratory personnel in an instructionally supervised laboratory. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 30% 1. Under limited supervision, assists students with course and/or laboratory assignments. Works with students individually or in small groups to demonstrate procedures and use of equipment and materials, or review classroom material. 2. Assists instructor with preparation of instructional materials; sets up/moves laboratory equipment and supplies, to include chemicals and biohazards, as required for demonstration of experiments/processes; maintains and cleans equipment; ensures equipment is in working order; may do routine repair/service. 20% 3. Assist in the supervision of lab activities to ensure a safe learning environment. Adheres to lab safety program for the applicable science department as it applies to the safe disposal of hazardous materials used in the lab in order to remain in compliance with OSHA. 20% 4. Provides clerical support to include ordering, cataloging, and maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment; checks out learning materials and maintains records; conducts annual inventory of supplies/equipment; assists with scheduling of learning facility. Assists in the preparation of reports and correspondences. May check lab attendance. 20% 5. Other duties as assigned. 10% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Senior level lab personnel and/or Instructional Dean.
