POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Program Student Advisor Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional B JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for coordinating and implementing advising services and program activities for participants in either grant or non-grant funded programs. YEARLY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: PERCENT OF TIME 1. Responsible for providing academic goal setting, career exploration, program 20% selection. Grant program advisors will work closely with the Financial Aid Office to ensure participant’s financial need is met. 2. Assess student needs to develop and implement an educational and career plan to assist students in resolving instructional conflicts, academic progress, interpersonal problems, academic adjustment difficulties and other student-related matters and update as needed. 20% 3. Identify, and intervene with students who are academically at risk by tracking students' academic progress and providing individual student conferences. Schedule and provide workshops in career and cultural awareness topics or other areas of interest and need that may increase retention of project participants; develop materials necessary for these workshops. 20% 4. Participate in staff development activities and committees and serve as an integral part of the department team. Assist with arrangements for New Student Orientation presentations and class presentations. Grant program advisors will assist with training and supervision of student interns and mentors. 15% 5. Maintain liaison with faculty, other departments and programs to provide information, coordinate efforts and facilitate referrals. Advisors are responsible for providing institutional district-wide department coverage as needed. 10% 6. Adhere to record keeping procedures as established by the program; complete necessary documentation and reports; update computer files and assist with the collection of data for evaluation and follow-up; assist with the documentation needed in the eligibility process by securing appropriate documents from other offices. 10% 7. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Effective oral and written communications skills. Experience working as a liaison. Effective customer service skills Ability to assess client’s needs. Experience conducting community outreach activities, presentations, or workshops. Effective interpersonal, organizational, and team-building skills. Effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills. Must possess the ability to maintain data field values within an integrated database system. Working knowledge of educational degree and career planning. Ability to work in a diverse environment and be sensitive to issues of diversity and inclusion. Experience working with a variety of spreadsheets, word processing, database, e-mail, and presentation software. 2.
