POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Financial Aid Specialist – Academic Progress Non-Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Classified D JOB SUMMARY: Provide skills and knowledge for the performance of specialized duties in the administration of student financial aid services and to serve as an advisor to student aid recipients. Responsible for interpreting complex rules, regulations, procedures and policies to students, parents and outside entities. Responsible for complex decisions requiring initiative and judgment in responding to individual student needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 20% 1. Act as a liaison between the Financial Aid Office and the Information Technology Department to generate Banner reports concerning student’s Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) status. 2. Ensure processes are in place to monitor, review, and notify students of continued program eligibility based on their academic performance. 20% 3. Determine eligibility for special programs, request and prepare necessary reports, award on the Student Information System, track and verify continued eligibility. Ensure all EPCC (SAP) policies and procedures are in compliance with all federal and state requirements. 20% 4. Assist Manager and Coordinator for Technical Services; add, update, manipulate and extract information from the Financial Aid module in the Banner system in order to run reports. 15% 5. Oversee the Financial Aid Suspension Appeals process; collect appeal requests from students suspended from financial aid, contact members of the review committee, post appeal results, and notify students. 10% 6. Responsible for processing and collecting Change of Major requests from students suspended from financial aid, review and determine eligibility. Post request results and notify students. Assist in special projects to include outreach efforts. 10% 7. Other duties as assigned. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Manager SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May provide work direction to work-studies. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Good communications skills, good public relations and a team players attitude. Ability to work independently in a high pressure environment and strong telephone etiquette skills. Knowledge of Federal and/or State student Financial Aid Program’s policies, procedures, rules, laws, and regulations. Experience working with a College’s or University’s integrated student system. Experience compiling data and preparing reports. Experience working directly with students and parents in a college or university setting. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer, fax, telephone, copier, and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software. Experience with software applications such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
