POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: EXTENDED TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Director Director, Media Services Exempt CATEGORY: Administrative GRADE: D JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the overall direction, leadership, and operation of the District’s Media Services in support of district’s common instructional goals. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 20% 1. Responsible for overall leadership, administration, personnel, programming, financing and technical operations of the District’s Instructional Media Service Centers, Educational Cable Access Channel and Web Development. Serve as a liaison between the College and other organizations regarding media. 2. Provide leadership for web development, electronic classroom design, engineering media equipment inventory and maintenance, and media production. Plan and direct the centralized acquisition and processing of media equipment through automated processes. 20% 3. Responsible for overseeing the development, training and implementation of media resources for the El Paso Community College district. Provide training to assist faculty with integrating technology into their curriculum. 15% 4. Supervise and monitor telecommunications services throughout the district, including TV and instructional media. Establish, maintain and review programming goals and services in line with the College’s mission, priorities and goals. Oversee technical production operations and program content, delivery, format and scheduling. 15% 5. Develop project work plans detailing objectives, tasks, timelines, and methods for evaluation. Supervise all mediated projects including monitoring of timelines and coordinating pre-production/production personnel. 15% 6. Develop, present, administer, and control budget expenditures allocated to Media Services departments. Create long-term strategies for maintenance and growth of department. 10% 7. EXPERIENCE: Seven (7) years experience directly related with at least five (5) years experience in management or administrative experience in technology, strategic and operational planning of technology resources. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Strong organizational and project management skills. Knowledge of computer hardware and software networking, graphics, web page development, web publishing, database design, webcasting and video production technologies. Ability to lead a team that supports the creative use of software in an instructional environment. Experience coordinating major technology projects. Ability to effectively communicate technical details, specifications, and reasonable cost-effective solutions to management and staff. Skills in developing, coordinating and managing technical assistance, and professional development activities. Ability to develop and communicate a vision of the Instructional Media Service Centers and Educational Cable Access Channel. Ability to work collaboratively in developing partnerships and teamwork. Technical knowledge and management skills to be able to network with technology experts within the media services and telecommunication industry. Necessary skills to effectively manage changes to support the implementation of new technologies and services. Ability to direct, evaluate, train and supervise the work of assigned personnel. Ability to guide media staff in the planning, selection, purchase and installation of media equipment and materials in coordination with other technology staff. 2. Equipment Used: Personal computer and a broad range of multimedia and computer technologies. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, presentation, web development and other production software.
