JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, perform police services as a Detective and Investigator and
enforce all applicable city, county, state, federal laws and college policies and procedures.

Conduct preliminary investigation, document and file initial reports, witness
statements, affidavits, and supplemental reports; identify and make proper arrest
of offender(s) when required; transport prisoners to local police stations or county
jail for processing and booking; testify in court when summoned; coordinate
criminal investigation as required with the city, county, state, and federal agencies.

Conduct investigations to obtain confidential information concerning missing
persons, investigating thefts, forgery, narcotic violations, or other law violations;
interview and take statements from suspects, students, staff faculty, and witnesses.
Maintain surveillance of suspected criminals; conduct specialized investigations
and investigate internal crimes and Affairs. Visit pawnshops and search for stolen
property.

Work continuously on criminal cases assigned; maintain relationships with other
law enforcement agencies; refer citizens, students, faculty, and staff to appropriate
agencies.

Follow up on pending cases, carry out special assignments, obtain information
through TCIC/NCIC, inventory and manage all evidentiary items and case files,
and perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Collect evidence, take photos, coordinate fingerprinting process with other law
enforcement officials; transport narcotics to DPS.

EDUCATION: Associate's Degree

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES:
Basic Peace Officer license issued by Texas Commission of Law Enforcement Standards
and Education (TCLEOSE) in compliance with state statue by time of appointment.
Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state by time of
appointment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Provide proof of liability auto insurance
Must pass medical examination and psychological and drug screening as required by
TCLEOSE.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Skills/Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of modern criminal investigation, identification and fingerprint
classification principles, methods and equipment, and rules for securing, handling, and
preserving legally accepted evidence.
Ability to obtain and remember information, including names, faces and details of
incidents, through investigation, interview, interrogations and observations.
Ability to analyze complex or difficult situations quickly, objectively, and act
accordingly.
Must be familiar with and knowledgeable of use of force and arrest procedures, involving
interaction with all local law enforcement agencies.
Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the
rights of others.
Safely operate a motor vehicle while responding to calls and driving within the district.
Knowledge and use of a hand-held radio
Proficient and qualified to carry an approved firearm and expendable baton
Familiarity with emergency equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in order to clearly and concisely
articulate complex facts and relationships in legible detail and summary reports and
records, and to testify in court in an objective and professional manner.
Ability to produce or obtain exhibits such as graphs, charts, photographs or other
evidence.

Software Used: A variety of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation
software in addition to Ticket Trak Vehicle Registration Program and the DSX Alarm
System.

Special Conditions:
Position requires irregular or extended work hours to include weekends and holidays.
Must be able to provide own personal transportation

Must not having any arrest convictions as mandated by TCLEOSE or have any adverse or
derogatory information that would reflect discredit upon law enforcement resulting from
a background check.

include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability
to adjust focus.

community; and ability to deal with irrational situations where the outcome is unpredictable.
